For those who missed Transvision Vamp's few stellar moments in the late 80's / early 90's will find this compilation excellent. It will make them wonder why this band - with a penchant for groovy melody, sexy singer with good voice and combination of brooding bass lines with electric/acoustic guitars - stopped short of world domination.

This compilation is a collection of every good track (that was or should've been a hit) they ever published with - of course - few omissions from the "Velveteen" album which ranks among TOP 3 of my favourite albums of the 80's (along ABC's "Lexicon Of Love" and Propaganda's "A Secret Wish"). Those tracks are: "Pay The Ghosts", "Falling For A Goldmine" and "Down on you".

Also, "Trash City" and "Psyhosonic Cindy" from the first album ("Pop-Art") are missing, which is a travesty.

Thankfully, shoud've-been-hit "Sister Moon" is included as well as "Kiss Their Sons".

Finally, all three stand-out tracks from their last album ("Little Magnets...") are here. Too bad that album missed the mark by softening their sound (which was ultimately their doom)...

BTW, I was probably too harsh for deducing one star for the ommisions of the five songs mentioned - but hey! I own all the albums and know what gems are missing. Heck, I'm gonna put it right now in the CD player!

Believe me, you won't find another album with so many excellent songs

oh the bleached hair and the pouting pale pink lips, i'd forgotten how good dearest wendy sounded until i dusted off my old tapes. Definatley worth getting on CD even if just for nostalgia!

Another reviewer here mentions the 'sexy' lead singer of this band, as if having a generic blonde in a band somehow exuses them from releasing godawful songs, but it doesn't.

And godawful songs are in plentiful supply here, on this collection. 'I Want Your Love', featuring kitsch, cliched lyrics, is a showcase for Wendy James' utterly horrifying vocals, breathy and faux-sultry, in a way which could only appeal to men. And specifically men who have zero taste in music.

'Baby I Don't Care' blatantly rips off the riff from 60's classic 'Louie Louie', without so much as a smidgen of subtlety. whilst the same trashy, unappealing vocals are in place, alongside the archetypal idiotic 80's lyrics. 'Tell That Girl To Shut Up' (how apt) is equally tiresome and Americanised, wafer-thin lyrics and annoying 80's musicianship. Essentially Transvision Vamp were the poor man's (far less talented) Primitives. It's worth mentioning though, just how appalling the lyrics are in 'Tell That Girl To Shut Up': 'she tries to appear intellectual... the way she acts is so uncool', etc etc. I don't think I've ever encountered more spiteful, brainless, idioctic lyrics in my entire life. I can only assume that Wendy James considers 'intellectual' women to be so 'uncool because she is so nauseatingly backward herself.

Either way, this is music which aims to slowly sap intelligent people of the will to live, whilst creating background noise for pond scum.
