Amazon.co.uk Review

Baby Get's The Zapper is an unforgettable picture book featuring Ted Dewan's cute-but-quirky illustrations of a baby who causes chaos when she gets her hands on the remote control.

Full of character and colour, this unusual and utterly delightful tale will have parents giggling as they recognise the havoc a small child can cause with a tiny piece of normal household equipment, and children will just love the rollicking tale of a child just like them who reaches new heights. Perfect for sharing at bedtime or in those quiet moments, Baby Gets The Zapper is a superb read. (Age 12 months to 3 years) --Susan Harrison --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description

Uh-oh! Baby's got the Zapper. ZAP! She ZAPS the television channels. She ZAPS her toys into a band. She ZAPS up a real aeroplane. Then she ZAPS the moon into a giant biscuit. Maybe that's one ZAP too many.

zapper fun, frankly 24 Feb 2004
Format:Paperback
Better known for his 'Crispin' book, Baby gets the Zapper is a fun-filled tale of what happens when a toddler gets his mits on the remote control. In his hands it makes his toys come alive, transforms a toy plane into a real, flying one and, best of all, turns the moon into a gigantic biscuit (or 'cookie', as Mr Dewan is an American). The fun ends when he falls out of his 'plane' into his mum's arms and she eventually 'zaps' him to sleep.

In all, this is a very nice book for young starter readers. The illustrations are lovely especially the double-page scenes where the baby is flying his plane. Unlike a lot of picture books for this age range, the colours of the illustrations are quite muted rather then bright and brash but it's no worse for that. Some might find, too, that the faces of the baby and mother look a bit weird but I put it down to the artist's idiosyncratic and individual style. Plus the fact that, by his own admission, he can't 'do' people properly!

In short, a worthy buy...get the Zapper!

Gets into the minds of baby and of mommy (and daddy!) 4 May 2006
By Aaron Silverman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I saw this book when my son was about 5 months old and knew that it had to come home with me. He's been obsessed with phones and remotes since the day he was born (somehow, I think he's not the only baby like that).

The pictures and words are big and clear, and the story is a hoot for everyone -- I think my son would have exactly the same adventures if he got his hands on a magic zapper, and the twist ending, where Mama "takes control," always makes my wife and I smile.

Another nice thing about this book is that, although the baby is referred to as "she" on the back cover, the baby drawings inside are androgynous (without being weird) and always referred to as just "Baby," so you can use "he" or "she" as appropriate for your child.
Adventure Abounds When Baby Controls the Remote! 9 Nov 2004
By Aunt Kiki - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Ever wonder what goes through the mind of a small child when they find a remote control and start pressing the buttons? Author/illustrator DeWan presents one possible answer in this fun-filled adventure presented from the viewpoint of an angelic red haired baby girl with curls. When she finds a remote control, a great little fantasy begins that is filled with ordinary objects becoming "magical" when she hits them with the "zapper." Colorful, cheerful, and amusing illustrations bring the story to life - from the initial "zap" of the TV, to the "zap" that brings the baby's toys to life, to the "zap" that enlarges a toy airplane into so that the baby can travel turn the moon to "zap" it into a giant chocolate chip cookie. The fantasy wraps up nicely with baby falling from her plane into the waiting arms of Mom, who eventually uses the "zapper" herself to put baby to bed. This unique story is sure to delight the youngest audience as well as those who read it to them. Recommended for ages 1 to 3
My Daughter Loves This Book 22 Oct 2002
By Melanie D Parker - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
My 2 1/2 yr old loves this book. We had checked it out at the library and when I returned it she was still asking me for it so I had to buy it. She now takes the remote for the television and pretends she is zapping me. She will tell me what she has zapped me into which will be things like a dog or cat. She never gets tired of reading this book and every time I read it it's as if it is the first time I am reading it to her. I highly reccomend this book for anyone with a toddler that loves to read.
