Since early on, the Baby Einstein Company's mission has been to expose young children to the "greatest forms of human expression": language, poetry, art, and music. Since receiving widespread acclaim for such solid programs as Baby Bach and Baby Mozart, the company has made a natural progression into another expressive realm--the animal kingdom--with its Baby Dolittle series. Neighborhood Animals was the first foray into critter country, followed by this exquisite sequel--World Animals--introducing youngsters, ages 1 to 4 years old, to the wonder, beauty, and hilarity of Earth's creatures.

In this 30-minute program, viewers journey to three natural animal habitats--jungle, ocean, and savannah--to watch tigers prowl, elephants romp, and giraffes glide with grace. They'll meet zebras, lemurs, starfish, and squirrels, toucans, pandas, and bears in footage both stunning and whimsical. Catering to the short attention span of its viewers, the video seamlessly flows from live action footage to colorful puppet segments (starring Jane the monkey) using engaging stage props (like a giant bubble blower) and kids' drawings. Animal paw prints morph into words and finally photos so that children learn to recognize the various animals while laughing out loud at their antics--monkeys swinging, dolphins diving and sea turtles swimming. Requisite classical music accompanies the action, including symphonies by Dvorák and Mendelssohn, along with an assortment of kid-friendly songs. Expect repeat play of this lovely, captivating DVD from a production company that continues to outdo itself. --Lynn Gibson

DVD Description

"World Animals" captures the spirit of a child's fascination with creatures living in the jungle, the ocean and the savannah. Little ones will be mesmerised by the combination of delightful wildlife footage, stimulating, colourful images and classic compositions from some of the world's most famous musicians, including Beethoven, Smetana, Mendelssohn, DvoÆrák and Grieg. Baby Einstein uses real-world objects, music, art, language, science and nature to introduce young children to the world around them in fun, fascinating ways. Each DVD is set to music specially reorchestrated for little ears.

just joyful! 2 Feb 2005
Format:DVD
Another winner from Baby Einstein, with delightful music, both classical and singalong. My toddler has giggled and gazed in wonder at the variety of animals shown in quickly-changing video clips so as to hold their attention. It's a fantastic opportunity to sit with a toddler and name the creatures or talk about what they're doing - or even just to keep a little one still for some rest time! The clips of animal-themed toys, puppets, and of children dressed in animal costumes are pure innocent fun. If your children know and love Baby Einstein already then this won't disappoint, though it probably suits 18 months and up rather than younger babies.

This is quite a good little dvd. The puppet shows appeal to the very young child and the songs and rhymes are catchy and easy to pick up.

Nothing ground breaking or wildly different from the other titles so only the 3 stars from me.

I own 10 discs ( bought in a set ) and can say I would still buy this one if it wasn't in the set or got damaged, but you do not need "neighbourhood animals" as well, it's not as good and is too similar to this one. Out of the two buy this title.

I purchased World Of Animals on the strength of my sons experience with Baby Neptune. My child is 9 months old and never sits still, so I was stunned when he plonked himself down on the first playing of Neptune, and didn't move until it was over. World of Animals has a similar impact so I will be adding more of these titles to his collection shortly.

The combination of real life animal footage, puppet role plays, brightly coloured themed toys, dressed up children, and relaxing music is wonderfully engaging and a great way to calm your child.

I am not a fan of all the imagery used, the cartoon animals wear silly clothing and some of the toys are not 'tasteful'. I also felt the range of animals explored could have been better, but my child is captivated, which speaks for itself.

Baby Neptune gets top marks and is definitely his favourite, but World Of Animals is a good alternative.

OK for toddlers
OK for toddlers (if you can get it cheap) but not special. You can get similar for free on the internet. My granddaughter will watch it, but not overly impressed.
