Amazon.co.uk Review

Baby bright is a marvellous new video, specially developed with music, movement, colour and sound to stimulate your infant, making them an active participant rather than a passive viewer. Normal television is bad for small children as the images move too quickly and the sounds are too loud. This programme, however, has been built specifically to attract and retain a small child's attention. The scientific method called "violation of expectation", which has been used in infant research for the last 10 years, is used with great success here. It means babies learn by repetition, so first of all they see lots of repeated sequences, eventually moving their eyes to the anticipated events on the screen. Suddenly it all changes! Thus the video creates the element of surprise for the child, and by surprising them after each sequence, helps build new connections in the brain.

The surprises in the video include: turning a train upside down, changing from a circle to a square, a star to a circle, changing colours and movements, and the voice of an adult becoming that of a child. The video also presents partial views, like a cat's whiskers or a cat's eye, eventually letting the infant discover and anticipate the whole of the cat's face. All of these events help the infant to think, notice repetitions, plan eye movements and altogether build up their brain structure.

It is important that an adult sits with the child and actively participates while watching the video. You will be able to see, at close quarters, the responses and amusement the video creates within the child. This is a learning tool and should be used at least three times a week to stimulate your infant, just like any educational book or toy. --Lynne Unwin

Synopsis

"Baby Bright" is an infant learning programme based on a scientific approach. It encourages baby to anticipate what might come next, to notice repetitions and changes and to make connections.

Ignore the review that says this is no good - we found it to be far more educational for our baby than any of the Baby Einstein/Bach/Mozart videos. We were very sceptical at first and as adults it drove us mad but baby loved it from the beginning & it will keep him firmly seated in front of the TV for half an hour. He smiles at all the images & we have noticed that he is very chatty after watching the video. His language skills at 9 months old seem more developed than other babies of his age who haven't been watching. We have now bought BB2 which he equally adores.

When I first saw this video and the claims it was making I was very sceptical. I did not know how on earth a baby under 1 year would sit and watch a video for 30 minutes, but it is amazing. My son is 7 weeks and he sits and watches and smiles at it for the whole time its on. They say it is best to try and let your child watch it a couple of times a week and that is the best bit, he seems to enjoy it more and more. The video is full of colour and moving objects and teaches them all sorts of basic skills. My son finds the frog the best thing and when it comes on he smiles and waves his arms and legs so much. As well as it teaching him different things I am able to get a bit of free time for myself. Out of a lot of things I have bought to try and entertain him this is the best thing so far.

Baby Bright is one of the most superb videos for babies that I have come across. From the moment I put this video on, my four month old daughter was glued to the screen. I can't even find a toy to keep her this happy.

It's simple pictures and changing images together with simple explanations make it perfect for occupying a young child. I would definitely recommend this as a purchase and I myself, will be buying volume two.

I may be being a bit unfair as this video may well appeal to babies, but I don't think I could bear to watch it again myself. Read more
