Baby Born must have 27 Jan 2011

How much fun can you have from a doll? This is the ultimate for a young child. My 3 year old granddaughter adores this doll and never gets tired of playing with her.

Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
I purchased the doll and potty set Article Nr. 803608 which is the equivalent to this current doll, 'walking' horse Article Nr. 807088, change bag Article Nr. 807736, Deluxe riding set Article Nr. 803486, ,stable Article Nr. 803530 and nappy set Article Nr. 799055.

I bought the set after seeing one of our friends childrens baby born doll which had the function of realistically drinking bottles and crying. I was impressed by this so wanted one of these dolls. My first problem came with finding this doll, after visiting toy shops and reading online I could not definitively find this doll due to the extremely poor descriptions on the boxes, so ended up buying the above model, which as you may appreciate is not the correct model.

Upon giving my daughter these toys I was quite frankly disgusted to find the extremely high level of faults with these toys. I will list these as follows:

Doll and potty set Article Nr. 803608 - Whatever I try the baby WILL not cry. I have given the baby atleast 4 complete bottles of water with the bottle right in her mouth and the baby sat upright, the water does however leak from around her neck, not quite sure how I explain that to my daughter when this is meant to be a 'realistic' doll. The weeing mechanism does not work properly either, the baby appears to leak completely randomly in a multitude of positions, it is in fact incontinent. A couple more general complaints include the appalling fit of the baby onto the potty, she looks as if she is lying on the potty due to the position the legs have to be at to allow her to sit on tightly and the large but genuinely un helpful instruction manual which for example does not fully explain exactly what the plug on the babies back is actually for.

'Walking' horse Article Nr. 807088 - Our 'walking' horse - the brown model - appears to have died an early death. Upon removal from the packaging the horse did not work, either with new batteries or the set that comes in the model. It does not even start to move, it is utterly useless. I exchanged this for a new model which thankfully worked.

Stable Article Nr. 803530 - This MDF masterpiece is of some of the lowest quality I have ever witnessed in a childrens toy. The first thing I noticed was some of the mdf peeling apart in one of the corners and the paint flaking off in this and attached areas. Hardly durable for a young childrens toy, one drop and this would probably shatter! My main complaint however comes from when I built this item. Upon screwing the first two screws into the wood joining the roof together the screws did not bite and simply bored larger holes in the wood, so now unless I go out and buy larger screws this will not be possible to join this together. I carried on building the stable but this same problem occured several times particularily with the white piece that sits under the stable door. Please note this is not due to me being some kind of imbecile with a screwdriver, I am a fully trained, experienced motor vehicle technician.

So in summary I have an incontinent, emotionless doll that likes to lie down on her potty. A horse with terminal paralysis and a rickety old stable that even the dodgiest of British builders wouldn't put their name too.

I am extremely upset with the faults I have found, I purchased these products expecting them to be of a high level of build quality but all that I am left with is a dissapointed daughter at absolutely the worst time for her to be dissapointed (new baby brother to contend with) and a selection of toys that do not work.

18 months later and I am still complaining, after writing to Zapf creations we were offered NOTHING in respect to our complaints. Unfortunately our doll dubbed 'Polly' was being dressed a couple of months ago (and she is certainly not a heavily played with doll, she was barely touched for a year after purchase until our daughter was a little older) when her arm simply fell off. I discovered one of the plastic lugs holding the arm on had broken. Now two months later the other arm has come off, again when my daughter was dressing her - nothing rough just normal playing. Sadly this time the arm will not refasten as it looks like three of the lugs which hold the arm on have broken off. I consider this absolutely unacceptable quality for an expensive baby doll which has seen relatively little use.

So there we have it, poor poor toys in my opinion and poor service from the manufacturer - avoid.

I should add I have complained a second time to the manufacturer - Zapf creations and will make sure to add their response to this review.

Baby Born 20 Aug 2011
By Ruthie
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
My 9 year old daughter is delighted with it - however you only get ONE nappy in the price which is not good value! The nappies don't last more than a day and then they are stuck not being able to feed the baby! Rated lower on durability for this reason.
