This is an excellent medical romance with likable characters a great plot and accurate medical details. The story takes you on an emotional roller coaster from disaster and grief to love and a satisfying happily-ever-after. The sexual tension between Marc and Holly kept me flipping the pages to see how they would solve their problems and find their happy ending. If you enjoy medical romances, I can highly recommend this story. It is much better than many of the Mills and Boon Medical Romances I've read.

For seven years Holly Collier has tried to protect her heart because of the one man with whom she had fallen in love. Now that Marc Suarez is back in the picture, it is taking Holly every bit of self control to keep the ice around her heart. She has put her all into her medical training in Neonatology leaving little time for socialization. There is no way she will let anyone tamper with her plans for the future, not even Marc Suarez. Just when she thinks she has everything under control, an accident occurs that changes both of their lives. Marc is faced with the fact that he is now a father to his nephew and looks to Holly for help. Can Marc and Holly make it past the crisis to find one another once again?'

Babies in the Bargain was just amazing! It started out very dramatic and got my attention from the first paragraph. The intense feelings of grief that Marc felt really got to me. My heart cried out for him. I felt very connected to the characters and loved every moment that I spent with them. Marc's character is a fiercely loyal man that takes his obligations to his family and work very seriously. Seven years earlier, he called off his relationship with Holly without telling her why and it's killing him that he can't get close to her once again. Holly's character was a strong woman with a strong work ethic but the feelings she feels when Marc comes around take her breath away. Watching these two characters try to stay away from each other was very amusing. It took everything they had to keep each other at arms length. I thought Marc was so incredibly sweet when he did whatever it took to make sure that Holly felt comfortable. I couldn't help but picture Marc Consuelos (of Kelly Ripa and Marc Consuelos) as the character of Marc in Babies in the Bargain!

Ms. Risk has done an outstanding job with Babies in the Bargain and is a very talented writer who gives the reader what they are after. The plot line was amazing and I found the entire book to be spot on with the medical terminology and procedures. Ms. Risk was able to evoke raw emotion from me throughout the book and I found it to be a most exciting and thrilling read. I highly recommend this book to those who love Medical Romances. This one will keep you on your toes and make you beg for more. I can't wait to read more of Ms. Risk's work in the future.

Dr. Holly Collier takes her responsibilities as a neonatologist very seriously. She's only got a year left to complete her medical training and when she's not taking care of the infants assigned to the NICU she's busy studying for the board exam. The last thing she needs is Dr. Marc Suarez's presence distracting her from her goals - after all he broke her heart seven years ago and Holly has no intention of going through that heartache again.

Dr. Marc Suarez has done everything in his power to wiggle himself back into Holly's good graces. Family obligations forced him to return to Puerto Rico seven years ago but now that he's back he can't stop thinking about Holly. Marc's gorgeous and extremely popular - especially with the female staff - which is both a blessing and a curse.

Despite all Marc's efforts, Holly's studiously turned him away over and over but they still end up spending a lot of time together in the operating room. He administers anesthesia, she waits for the troubled babies to be born- hoping for the best, prepared for the worst. They work well together and have even consulted each other on certain cases - including his sister-in-law's worrisome pregnancy.

Just when they believe that Lydia's pregnancy is in the clear, the unexpected happens. A tragic accident forces Dr. Suarez into a position he never thought he'd have to fill - as a father figure to his orphaned nephew. While he sees to the burial plans for his brother and his wife, Marc entrusts Holly to care for the baby. Fortunately Holly's already formed a strong attachment to the baby - but is she setting herself up for heartache? Marc needs help with little Paulito and Holly's more than willing to `mother' him, but that also means she's spending a great deal more time with Marc - and what about her upcoming exam? Dare she dream that the dynamic Dr. Marc Suarez is ready to settle down with just one woman?

BABIES IN THE BARGAIN is one novel that pulls you into the story and holds you captive to the last page. My heart broke for Marc and the touching way little Paulito comes into his life. At the same time, the baby forces Holly to acknowledge her feelings for Marc - feelings she's been trying hard to ignore. Mona Risk delves into the intense life and death situation babies in the NICU face and tempers that overwhelming emotion with a high intensity romance in a storyline that will truly touch the reader's heart.

Risk pens a solid character driven story that will tug on the heartstrings with "Babies in the Bargain." A contemporary romance set in Washington, D.C., "Babies in the Bargain," heroine, Dr. Holly Collier, has a tough schedule to maintain, but when Dr. Marc Suarez comes back into her life, Holly's schedule, and her heart, are challenged in more ways than one.

Risk's writing is easy to read and engages the reader right away. The plot flows well and there's never a dull moment.

Risk uses a good economy of words to give the reader vivid descriptions of Marc and Holly's world, making it easy for the reader to picture the book's setting.

Marc and Holly are complex characters that are a joy to watch grow. Holly's dedication to her medical career is admirable, but it's rewarding to watch her grow in compassion and love as she cares for Paulito. Marc is a nice guy who is put in a tough situation. It's heartwarming to see how he steps up to care for his nephew. As Marc comes to trust Holly, it's nice to see him confide his problems to her.

"Babies in the Bargain" is sophisticated for romance readers. The love scene is sensual and tasteful. Overall, the story is one that will leave the reader believing in the power of true love.
