Book Description

13 Feb 2012

Becoming a father is a moment in a man's life like no other.

The love, the pride, the joy and occasionally the fear stirred up inside us by the complex little being that moves into our home and our relationship takes some serious getting used to.

And then there's the really tough stuff like putting up a travel cot and installing a car seat.

Despite all this though we are often given more advice when we buy a phone than when we become a Dad...until now.

This is the indispensable manual every new dad needs from newborn to nursery, this is  Babies and Toddlers for Men.

Written by Mark Woods, author of the best selling Pregnancy for Men and proud father of two, this utterly readable guide tells you how it is in a frank and funny way that will leave you educated and energised to take on the next amazing stage of being a Dad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal for Dads and Dads to be 12 Mar 2012
By David TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I am about to become a Dad for the first time and am both excited and slightly terrified at the prospect. There are alot of books about having a baby and bringing it up. There are not many which centre around the Father so this book was a welcome read. Babies & Toddlers For Men is well written and easy to follow. There are alot of usefull hints and advise on how to support your partner as well as caring for your child. This book contains alot of information about health issues such as post natal depression and how to deal with it, as well as many other factors. As the title suggests it covers from the birth right up to the nursery years. If you are an expectant Dad or already have a baby then this is a book that is well worth reading and will help eliminate alot of worries, so like me you can concentrate on the excitement and put alot of the worrys aside. Thank you for reading my review and happy parenting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book on fatherhood 24 Feb 2012
By Steven Brown TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I'm well in to my fatherhood journey now (well a year, it's just felt longer), and got given this book. Wish I had it before my son was born.

The book covers from hospital to 3 years old, generally arranged into 3 month slots.

Each section has sub headings of areas of interest - factual information, accompanied by a chatty, amusing narrative about that particular age category. Having read year 1's advice, after I had actually lived through it, I found it excellent. Really covers all the facts, and feelings that you have - all the info you need, without having to wade through some of the weightier baby tomes.

Each section also contains a couple of sentences from a group of fathers with a variety of thoughts and tips - again, very useful, and so many summed up the way I thought at that time.

Although I'll have to wait a few years to see if the rest of the book is as accurate, I feel it's an excellent reference guide, witty, informative, and highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eminently readable as well as practical 3 May 2012
By Mr Gumby TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
There's no shortage of books dishing out advice on parenthood and plenty of them focus on fathers. This is one had to work hard to stand out from the crowd but it's managed to do so. It makes a good, light-hearted read packed with valuable advice and non-prescriptive guidance, as if from an old and wise friend. Even factual information is presented in an entertaining way, even if some of it could do with some information on sources.

The book covers new-born to age 3, in sections of 3 months and then 6 months. There's no one right way to do things, of course, and Mark doesn't pretend otherwise. He goes into everything from care to finance and lobs in quotes and ideas from experienced fathers. He's realistic too, recognising that all fathers, out of frustration, tiredness or similar, are at some point going to do something they know to be "wrong", and suggests ways of dealing with the aftermath rather than pretending you might be super-human.

This would be my first choice among fatherhood books. I could find things to criticise but they're of no real consequence, so I'm happy to allocate the five stars it deserves.
