5.0 out of 5 stars Better than any parenting guide............ 22 Feb 2003
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This was almost the first and certainly the last 'parenting' book I read before my son was born almost 14 years ago -- all the others became superfluous. These essays are not a 'guide' in any sense you would recognise - more a message of lifelong support for the new mother. Their central message for me was beautifully simple - trust yourself and trust your baby - trust that your baby will tell you what he or she needs from you - and believe that you can provide it. This is a recipe for joyful parenting - all you have to do is believe in yourself, tune in and respond. That's what makes a 'good enough mother'. Liberating. Thank you Winnecott.

5.0 out of 5 stars Babies and Their Mothers 3 Dec 2009
Format:Paperback
Although the papers for this this book were written over 40 years ago, it is relevant and interesting. Some of his language may make you giggle but he is well meaning and you must remember that times have changed! It will be of interest to those of you with some knowledge of psychotherapy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Melts in your mouth 18 Jun 2014
By M. Eigen - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Winnicott gave me this book when I saw him in 1968. It was in a British edition including BBC talks. He gave me several others which all were wonderful too, but this one I loved the most.

It opened me in ways I didn't even know. I read it over and over.

You'd think it's not for Dads - but I can tell you it is. It touched me through and through.

This book is a must for any health professional working with mother/baby dyads, NICU's and in early childhood development. Winnicot is a master at being able to view the world from a child's eyes.
