Product Description

Product Description

This is a practical, commonsense, up-to-date guide to the everyday concerns of parents facing the first year of their baby's life. Dr Christopher Green's style of lighthearted yet authoritative advice aims to reassure parents to trust their own instincts and to do what feels right and works for them. This book begins at birth and talks about the normal worries parents have adapting to the new human being in their midst. There follow many chapters on such practical day to day concerns such as feeding, crying, sleeping and bonding. Some heavy but important topics are included, such as postnatal depression, cot death, the handicapped child and what to do when close to child abuse. It also includes the more humorous, light hearted moments of family life, for this book is not just about babies, it's also about families and relationships. It is for mothers, fathers, grandparents and anyone who is interested in children. Dr Christopher Green is also the best-selling author of "Toddler Taming". He was born in Belfast and is now a consultant paediatrician and head of the Child Development Unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children in Sydney.

practical and funny 16 Aug 2002
This book was recommended to me by my partners midwife as she said that she and all her colleagues thought it was the best baby book around. I totally agree, it is practical and gives brilliant suggestions for all things that can happen to a baby in the first 12 months. I find myself picking the book up and reading it whenever I have a spare moment.

There are a lot of books out there for new and not so new parents alike, unfortunately not too many of them are helpful! This book is different, it is written in an understandable and humourous style and is fully practical in most of it's advice. The author doesn't expect parents to be superhuman and focuses on enjoying, understanding and adjusting to new demands without having to fit your baby into a box.

It's my Bible 22 Feb 2007
As most soon-to-be parents do, I went out and bought loads of the books that were supposed to be the book to have. Non of them have been as helpful as this one. A friend sent me a second hand copy from New Zealand saying that it was doing the rounds down there and everyone raved about it. I can very confidently fully recommed it as it has been my bible for the last 21 months. Now that my little boy is not so little any more, I've just gone out and bought Toddler Taming the next book and that looks just as good so far.
