When it comes to Lordi, I've been a big fan ever since I heard such songs as "Devil is a Loser", "Get Heavy" and, of course, the Eurovision winner "Hard Rock Hallelujah". Their mixture of Horror-style Lyrics, as well as many impressive guitar solos and riffs makes for a very satisfying addition to any halloween playlist.
Babez for Breakfast is the next step in Lordi's musical evolution. The Album posseses many of Lordi's signature aspects, such as Mr Lordis raspy, evil vocals, Amen's sometimes simple, but always impressive guitar riffs and Lady Awa's contribution of gothic, horror keyboards, pianos and prgans.
However, this album is distinctly different from the other albums they've recorded in the past. There is a more obvious 80s feel to this album, reminiscent of Twisted Sister, Alice Cooper and the like.
A great example of this 80s movement comes obvious in "Rock Police", the 4th track on the album. Lady Awa contributes to this song with a synth sound i can only describe as "80s downtown dancing". As strange as it may sound, this is the sort of feel i get from these synth sounds. I picture walking down an 80s town centre at night, past the discos and roller skate cafes. As well as this, the spoken it at the beginning almost sounds Cheesy in its success at complementing this song. These along with Kita's backing vocals during the chorus sum up to a truly awesome sound, and is a favorite for me.
If you haven't listened to any of these songs before purchasing this CD, be prepared for the change, thats all I can say. I begun dissapointed by this album, but I promise you, the second time through, you'll love this album.
So yeah, Many bands change movement slightly, some fail. But Mr Lordi and his Monster band have really excelled themselves here. Well done to them. 5 Stars
