I got this for my wife in the hope that it would be quieter and more energy efficient than her current Braun hair dryer. She made it clear that it needs to perform just as well as the Braun for her to consider using it long-term!
At first glance, the Babyliss Eco Dry looks and feels a bit like a travel hairdryer and because of this, I didn't have particularly high hopes for it. However, my wife was really pleasantly surprised. According to her, it's really powerful and dries hair just as quickly as her previous hair dryer. It is also very light and easy to handle. She claims her hair felt "lovely and smooth" after using it (her words!).
The fact that it's Eco-Friendly is an added bonus - at less than half the power rating of the previous dryer, it should cost a lot less to run over the coming months and years! And it would easily fit in a suitcase for use on holiday.

UPDATE - 6 months on, I've changed the rating from 5 to 4 stars. Unlike most hair dryers which allow you to unscrew the back cover to clean out the filter, this one is a completely sealed unit. A build up of my wife's hair around the fan rotor finally started burning out the motor yesterday. I had to take the plastic casing apart with a specialist screwdriver to free the hair from the filter. It still smells of burning when used - I'm not sure if the motor will survive this. However, the performance and energy saving are still excellent features, and this could just be one-off bad luck.

I researched this product on Amazon and other websites before buying it so I wasn't surprised by the `travel hair dryer' style when it arrived. It's certainly not a glamorous object but I was more interested in its eco-credentials than anything else, especially as I blow dry my hair every day. However what I wasn't expecting was it to break down twice within 4 months. The first time I was on holiday and the fan at the back became blocked with hair. Unlike other hairdryers it doesn't have a removable filter but we managed to unscrew it and remove the hair. Then only a month later it has stopped working again, and although I have yet to unscrew it, I can't see an obvious hair build up. I am now considering recycling it and buying something else as apart from breaking down, it never gets very warm and therefore takes a while to dry my hair. In addition the straightening nozzle isn't narrow enough for me to use with a large round brush. I would say this product is fine for using a couple of times a week for short-ish hair but no good for blow drying long hair on a daily basis. It's a shame as otherwise it's a great eco-friendly device.

It's hard to believe it operates at any power below standard procedure. The fan is good, and there is a lot of hair movement, spreading out the hair and drying individual parts quicker. It isn't lacking in heat either, and while not quite as hot as a 2000W dryer, is still quite plucky, and will get your hair dry in the same time, whilst probably avoiding some of the heat damage.
I like it. Looks and feels well made. Good price. Works well.
