BaByliss 2088CU Pro 230 Elegance Straightener Blueberry

I received these this morning and couldn't wait to try them out. I have to say that as a long time user of GHD I didn't expect to be able to make the move to another brand, however my GHDs are now about 8 years old and need a break. These Babyliss straightening irons in Blueberry are just the thing to replace them with.

There are three heat settings which means you can adjust the heat to suit your particular hair type. The three settings are:
Setting 1: 180oc
Setting 2: 200oc
Setting 3: 230oc

I liked the on/off switches being separate button presses rather than the traditional slide switch. The ceramic plates are long and thin but they are perfectly able to cope with my thick, coarse and always unruly hair. When the straighteners are fully heated a side indicator bar shows up red so you know they are ready. A small blue light on the side of the tool also lights up and according to the manual this lets you know that the 'ionic port is releasing a stream of ions for frizz free hair'. Not sure about that last part but these straightners do leave my hair silky, straight and shiny (with or without ions).

The item also came with 4 sectioning clips - EXTREMELY useful so a real big thumbs up here. Not just flimsy ones either but proper salon type clips. It also comes with a really useful removable heat protector mat for resting the straightners on whilst your using them and to wrap them up in afterwards.

There's also a large blue pouch which is meant to be storage but frankly I could not manage to squeeze the straightners in there so I am using the pouch (slightly tacky satin outfit) to store other hair accessories.

All in all I am completely delighted with these. I was hoping that the Blueberry colour would be slightly more purple as it seems in the product picture because they are actually a really dark navy blue but to be honest they are so great and work so well I can't take any stars off for the colour.

I'm a big fan of Babyliss products, and for the money, I don't think they can be beat.

I've been using a pair of Babyliss 2085U Pro 230°C Straighteners for over two years now, and they work just as good as when I purchased them, so I was keen to try out the Blueberry 230 to see how it compares.

Build wise, it doesn't feel quite as solid as the Pro, but that's not to say it feels like it will break easily - in some ways it's actually a bonus as it's slightly lighter in the hand.

I also prefer the slightly narrowing blades on the Blueberry - much more suited to my short hair.

Heat up time is blisteringly quick - I only turned my back for a second and the red light had already stopped blinking - very impressive indeed!

The one thing the Blueberry lacks is the flexibility in selecting the exact temperature. On the Blueberry, you have a choice of 180, 200 or 230 degrees. I found this a little restrictive as for me 200 is too low, but 230 too hot. A minor point I guess, but it was a handy feature on the Pro model, and one I'd got used to having.

I'm really pleased to see that Babyliss have finally made something which isn't pink! At last, a colour that men can use without embarassment!! :)

All in all, this is another great product, which delivers great results, despite the lower spec compared to some Babyliss models.

After almost four months of using a cheap pair of hair straighteners I decided to take the plunge and buy a better set.I knew what I was looking for , something that would give me a salon look without the hyped price tag, so after a bit of investigative work on the Internet I came up with two choices, either buy the GHDs which had a price tag of £120 or take notice of positive product reviews take the plunge and buy the babyliss pro 230 elegance straighteners.

Looking on Amazon.co.uk I came across the pro 230 elegance straighteners at the bargain price of £26.80 a 58% saving on the RRP so I decided to give them a go . The product reviews were all positive.I placed my order and eagerly awaited their delivery.

Two days later my new Straighteners arrived..

Inside the box came The straighteners in an eye pleasing electric blue blue colour,( I know the colours got nothing to do with the effectiveness but they are aesthetically pleasing .)

An electric blue satin storage bag , used for storing the straighteners when not in use.
A heat protection pad for placing the straighteners on when they are in use to avoid burning counter tops and Four crocodile sectioning clips for the hair.

A pamphlet with instructions and guidance on which heat setting is best for each type of hair,and the five year guarantee... Yes I did say Five Years !

These straighteners are Ceramic plates have 230 degree salon temperature performance, the plates are 25% longer..( great for getting more hair straightened in less time ) with three temperature settings,180, 200 and 230 c.

They heat up in fifteen seconds. Can't believe I'm saying this but its True !

Ionic technology which in effect keeps your hair from frizzing complete with its own , fluorescent blue indicator light which lets you know the ionic technology is working.

They also have a Red indicator light which flashes until the straighteners reach their optimum heat.

Two switches at the side one which switches them on and the other switches them off and a three way sliding switch for the heat control.

A 3 metre salon swivel cord..This is fantastic as it almost reaches to the other side of the room.

Well I had them so decided to see what all the hype was about, it states in the instructions that these straighteners take 15 seconds to heat up ...I was sceptical to say the least, but after switching them on in the time it took to turn around they were ready for use.

Usually it takes me a good 40 minutes to straighten my entire head of hair so after sectioning it , I decided to time myself . I found that 200 c was the best heat setting for my hair and started , because of the longer plates , I was able to straighten more of my hair at a time , and just ten minutes after starting I was sitting in front of the mirror with my hair looking as sleek as it had the last time I came out of the salon.
no more frizzy flyaway hairs , must be the ionic technology working ...to be honest I have NO idea what that means , but that's irrelevant as as far as I'm concerned it WORKS !

Absolutely ! every penny I probably would have paid more if I had known beforehand the results these straighteners can deliver.

~~~~~~~~~Negatives~~~~~~~~~

As far as I am aware there is only one small niggle I have about these straighteners, They don't cool down very fast so you could be spending more time waiting for them to cool than you initially spent straightening your hair, I leave them now for a good fifteen minutes to cool before placing them back into their storage pouch.

Who needs GHDs when these do just as good a job at a fraction of the price.the five year guarantee is is huge bonus as you know you will be covered for a complete replacement if they fail in this time...I say If you want salon silky straight hair at a knockdown price get over to amazon and purchase them now !
