I have thick, frizz prone hair that has a strong kink in it [I stupidly decided that having waves 'loosely' permed into my hair was a fantastic idea...]. I rarely bothered to use straighteners on my hair as it would take a long time & the finished results didn't last for long.
One thing that makes a difference to the results is the heat of the straighteners. Professionals rave about the brilliance of GHD's & their great results. They work every time because of the 200.c heat they produce. These BABYLISS straighteners are better, if you have thinner hair you don't need to make do & fry your hair. The straighteners have 5 heat settings; 170.c, 185.c, 200.c, 215.c & 230.c, making it easy to pick the right temperature for your hair.
The main difference to the RADIANCE 230 is the ceramic-titanium plates. These have a `comb' built into them. It's a simple, yet fantastic idea; you only need to use one hand - you don't need to juggle a comb around to get the knots out of your hair! The comb is retractable; you can pick between 2 different height settings depending on your hair type, or they can be fully retracted. Your choice.
Another choice you have is to steam or not to steam. If you would like that mirror shine effect there is a small water tank on the top of the straighteners. You can then pick between 2 different heat settings for the steam, again depending on hair type.
I also love that the ceramic plates are wider then a lot of other brands as it takes less time to straighten my long hair. Let's be honest; if it takes a long time you just get bored & don't bother.
Finally: the protective mat & carry pouch is great. I don't accidently scorch any furniture during use & the straighteners are safely put away from inquisitive cat noses!!
These straighteners are helping me to make a style transformation. Yes, I know nice hair isn't earth shatteringly important, but I do get a confidence boost when I've made an effort & have gotten good, long lasting results (I tied my hair up & when I later combed it back out it was still super smooth).

Having long, dark course hair, I'm well versed in using hair straighteners.
I think I really need a salon quality straightener, that gets hot enough to really do justice to my hair, but I haven't spent the money thus far. So I was really comparing this to other off-the-shelf straighteners.
In terms of the overall product:
This comes up with a carry case, clips, straightener, and pad to set the straightener on. The case and clips were a waste for me (they call the case luxury, but I'd call it an ordinary case - nothing special). I don't use them at all. The pad is good as I can set the straightener down without burning anything around.
Straightener:
Features I like:
1. Variable temperature setting - this is really nice since it helps with different hair types, and the hottest does the trick for me.
2. De-tangling pins: These are provided for different lengths of hair. I use the "thick hair" setting and it works great - no tangles for me.
Features I don't like:
1. Steam feature: I found this hard to fill up (there is a small hole like an iron). In my one and only attempt, I found it cumbersome and unneccessary. The high heat setting seems to be fine for me.
So overall, I continue to use this straightener. It works well for me on a daily basis and I'd recommend it.

I was pleasantly surprised with this product, but I must say, I do miss some of the features of my old Remington wet 2 straight (which still works after nearly 4 years of use). I love how this product looks and the straightening quality is superb. My hair is ethnic with a lot of volume and tight curls. I always set this straightener on 8 and it's just perfect for me, I never tried the water function and can't notice any difference with the use of the fins.
Now, there's a couple of things I don't like about this straightener. First,if it gets anywhere near your scalp, it's gonna burn you! My old Remington had a barely noticeable barrier that protected the scalp against the plate, so I could go for the roots with no fear. Another thing is that it gets very slippery, specially if you use any kind of lotion, serum, or oil to protect the hair. It's hard to get a firm grip and you end up burning your fingers.
I also would love to know what temperature corresponds to each number on the heat scale. It varies from 170-230 degrees, so supposedly, it's 7 heat degrees, but 10 options of heat. I can only estimate how hot it is, but I don't know precisely, and there's not such information on the manual.
I do notice a superior straightening if compared to my previous, but I wonder if it is due to the quality of the plates or only because it actually is hotter, as my Remington only reached a maximum of 200 deg.
Yes, I recommend the product, but I also wish I had tried another Remington that could reach up to 230 degrees. Babyliss could do with some improving for the next editions, considering safety for the roots and slipping hazards.
