I'm a touch biased regarding this book as I attended a workshop with representatives of the Chinese Health Qigong Association when they came to the UK earlier this year. I didn't study this course, but the 5 animals and the 6 healing sounds.
But even so, this is a very clear book with good detailed explanations of the movements, without too much esoterical stuff to bog down the newbie.
It is very clear written, and the DVD is of professional quality that ensures that anyone using this will learn the movements correctly.
Regarding the actual set of movements: there are many many variations of this set of Qigong, and this appears to be a slightly easy (not really simplified) set. The stances are not that low, but anyone can of course lower their own stance to increase intensity.
The 8 movements are nevertheless pretty standard, and therefore taking the quality and clarity into consideration, this is a very very good book and DVD.
Many people think that they should learn lots of different Qigong sets to get better, but to be honest from personal and professional experience it is far better to learn a standardised quality set like the baduanjin and practice it daily for several months, ideally for the rest of your life, this will give you the true benefits of Qigong, ie. improvements in health and vitality, rather than knowing a lot of complicated movements that you will never get anything from.
Conclusion: I'd recommend (and have already done so)this book and DVD as a first step, as well as a lifetimes practice in Qigong.
