5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal, unobtrusive, great-performing, Freeview adapter, 3 May 2008
By Countryphile (S Gloucestershire, UK) - See all my reviews
When is a set-top-box not a set-top box ? When it's a Bush DFTA1001 dongle that plugs into the SCART socket !

Out of the box, you get a dongle device, little bigger than a mobile phone, a mains adapter, power supply (4W consumption both 'on' and 'standby') similar to a phone charger, and
an infra-red sensor (to stick [self-adhesive pad] on top of your TV), a remote control and a pretty good instruction book.

Plug in the power and your aerial lead, switch on, then follow the on-screen instructions to have the device find all the Freeview TV and radio stations in your area. As it finds them it even tells you which transmitter the station came from.

The EPG, Electronic Programme Guide will run in two, useful modes: 'regular' now and next programme for four channels at a time, or '7-day mode' with times and programmes up to 7 days ahead, for one channel at a time. The 7 day mode is accessible and controllable from the regular mode by clever use of the red, green, yellow and blue buttons.
Selecting a 'next' programme will activate a reminder, automatically switching channels when the 'next' programme starts. In addition there are other timers you can set.

You can segregate channels into up to 5 'Favourites' groupings, e.g. Favourite 1 for 'real' TV and Favourite 2 for Radio channels etc., making it easier to select what you're after.

The adpater supports 4:3 and 16:9 formats, of course, but also has a Picture size button on the remote, to let you change from Letterbox, to Pan/scan and Wide modes to suit your taste/programme.

Even when signal strength is a little weak, the circuitry resists and causes momentary freezing rather than annoying pixellation and noise.

The remote is small and neat and includes Subtitle on/off, and Freeze-frame (Pause) buttons. Some major buttons are raised, so you can find them easily in the dark or if you're a little visually impaired.

Bear in mind
a) your TV set must have a SCART socket
b) you won't be able to connect a DVD player for pass-thru connectivity to your TV
c) there's no 'RF out' port so you cannot receive non-digital (old, analogue TV).

Overall, it's an ideal, very unobtrusive device to update your portable TVs around the house. It works very well, being easy to set up and use.

It's 'on special' at UKP29.97 (Tesco Direct) right now. Great value.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUSH Digital freeview receiver DFTA1001, 25 Dec 2007
I'd like to start my review by stating I have no experience of freeview at all, but since my parents have opted for freeview I've been watching the history channels and of course; Dave!

It's rare these days for anything to plug straight in and be working without reading instructions, difficulty tuning, calling for help etc.,

This was plugged into the back of my TV in a few seconds, the receiver placed in front of my TV and the adapter plugged in and within a few minutes was not only installing channels but wAs showing Top Gear: No tuning, to tearing manuals up!!!

I can't recommend this highly enough for people who want to get something out of the box and within five minutes have access to freeview channels.

Highly recommended, no need for instructions!

4.0 out of 5 stars good product if space is an issue, 16 Sep 2008
By R. wharton "richard987654" (s-o-t) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
hi.

now if space is an issue (say if your tv is wall mounted) then this is great.

it produces a good pic (mine's a 17" so bigger units i can't comment on) & the menu etc is simple & it's pretty much plug & play :-)

two niggles tho>

1. it's slow to change channels & 2. you can't switch channels (although you have 5 favorite lists).

all in all if space is an issue this is great

The product was indeed very easy to set up. Just a few minutes and it was up and running. However, I immediately noticed the slow response time of the device and remote. Read more
