The BT Synergy 5500 single pack is a well specificied and stylish addition to the range of BT cordless DECT phones. Boasting a Black & Silver design, this telephone will look the part in even the most sophisticated of environments. It is compatible with ordinary telephone lines or even an analogue extension on a telephone system, making it ideal for the home or office. The handsets embody a 5 line blue backlit display screen. The matching base station compliments the sophisticated design of the handsets and includes a handy control panel with message indicator.
The BT Synergy 5500 has an integrated digital answering machine that records for up to 12 minutes. Messages can be played back on the base station or the handsets and can be remotely retrieved from an external phone using the remote playback feature. The base station includes a message indicator that displays when new messages are left.
The BT Synergy 5500 delivers up to 10 hours of talktime/100 hours of standby time, per battery charge, making it a perfect choice in the home for hours of leisurely chatting, or in the workplace for reliable, frequent operation. The handsets can also be used to chat in hands-free mode via the Handsfree feature.
The BT Synergy 5500 can be personalised with 19 polyphonic ringtones or a standard ringtone. The phone is type II caller ID compatible with a calls list and redial list and boasts a large 250 name and number phonebook that can be copied between the handsets. This model is also available in a twin, trio & quad pack.
This phone includes many other useful features including a SIM card reader & writer, base ringtones, secrecy function, handset naming, keypad lock, earpiece volume control, handsfree volume control, call timer, clock, alarm, calender, appointments, low battery indicator, low battery alert, out of range indicator and an out of range alert.

I had researched this phone on various sites and seen it in store. I chose this one because of the sim reader and the well laid out buttons. I found out that having caller display from BT would allow the phone to set up the time which it did as soon as I plugged it in. I can also see who is calling if their number is on the contacts.
I did use the sim transfer but, although it worked, I had to mess about because my mobile is set up with forename/surname and this phone has a limited number of characters per name. I then transferred the phonebook easily from one handset to the other. The synergy is gap compatible and I have a third non BT handset connected - no problem here although I did need to use the online instructions as the quick start provided does not tell you how to register other handsets. The answer machine is playable through the handset or base and there is a message counter on the base but no reminder tone. I like to use the base and this was another reason for choosing this device. I have set up my own outgoing message but there are also two presets. I can access the answer phone remotely. I have found the sound quality a little tinny but clear enough. The ringtones are not as good as a mobile phone but there are a couple of fairly normal rings - you don't have to choose the can can or monty python if you don't want to. The volume on one of the handsets was so quiet that I could't hear it even at full - I got it replaced and it is now fine. I don't know if it is because of having caller display but a record is kept of all missed calls - even if the answer phone was used. It also keeps a list of calls made. The only annoying thing is having to delete them from each handset. I deleted all calls from handset 1 and then found the same list on handset 2. I've only had the phones for a couple of days so I can't comment on battery life or reliability but, so far, everything seems to work as expected.

I'm very pleased with my purchase. It was extremely easy to set up and the sim card copying facility saved so much time. The clarity is excellent and I love the handsfree facility. I would recommend this product for both it's looks and its performance.

Nice phone and good quality so dont mind the price tag. The call tones are hideous though (digital) but its ok if you dont expect the phone to be ringing 24/7.
I like the answer phone and caller id function which you can insert numbers using your cellphone sim card.
