I bought this to replace an old DECT which was faulty.

You don't really need the instructions as it is simple and straightforward to use. Clear display & memory holds 30 numbers, although I found the keypad a little small. I leave it off the base until it needs recharging and get 3-4 days of light usage in between charges. I let it recharge overnight.

If like me you use other equipment with AAA batteries, it's simple to swap empty for fully charged ones, or charge them in a faster charger if you have a lot of calls to make and can't be bothered to wait for it to charge overnight. Removing the batteries does not clear numbers stored in the memory.

Always ask what type of batteries the 'phone takes before you buy. Best to buy one (like this) that takes conventional rechargables, (start at £1.50 each in the high street) rather than a battery pack, which can cost up to £10. The difference is that the battery pack is 2 normal batteries, wrapped in plastic and connected with 2 wires and a tiny plug. There is always a chance they will stop making them, but conventional rechargable batteries will always be available and cheaper and of course (as above) you can swap them around.

Since my original review the price has dropped by nearly half, so even more of a steal than when I bought mine.

Had this phone now for over 3 months and couldn't be happier. We needed a cordless phone to connect to Broadband and simply wanted one for making calls and having the flexibility of being able to leave it around the house. I am glad we didn't opt for the more expensive versions as this has been perfect for our requirements.

A good phone with the basic needs at a cheap price.

This phone is nothing short of infuriating. I would strongly recommend you buy something else if you intend to use the second handset in a place where the walls between it and the base station are made of anything thicker than tracing paper!

I have two handsets - one, the base unit, sits on a charger/stand plugged in to the phone socket inside the house. The second sits on a charger/stand in my garage (now converted to an office) which is about 5m from the base unit. It is supposed to pick up the signal from the base unit and is rated as having 50m internal coverage. No chance!

However, the garage unit picks up enough signal to ring when I get an incoming call, but as soon as I answer it the call drops and I then have to go inside and pull the power on the base unit to reboot it before either handset will function again.

With outgoing calls I can dial the number and it rings a couple of times before losing signal and needing a reboot. It would be better if simply doesn't work at all.

To be fair the unit inside the house works better, although the sound quality is always poor and there is a lot of interference and echo. (Both are less than a year old.)

I thought this was symptomatic of all cordless phones, until I used a friends panasonic (not sure of the model) - it was infinitely better.

In this case the old saying is definitely true - you get what you pay for - so save yourself loads of frustration and hassle and don't buy one of these!!

We've got three of these and have had little bother with them.

They feel a little lightweight but they drop well (!). Battery lasts OK but they're rarely very long off the charger and we're not trying the problematic hour and a half long calls of another reviewer.

Batteries if you do need to replace them are only AAA so don't need specialist replacements - one of our 3 was an ebay purchase which has had a new set.

You can't wall mount which is a shame - the holder sits the phone at a funny angle.

Phonebook is OK, caller ID picks the names up out of the list if it recognises it which is good.

So....they're working well for us and I'd recommend them.

had this phone just over a year, and at first everything went well. thought i'd got a real bargain, but as time has gone by, the quality of signal has degenerated - strange echos & static on the line. tried another phone on the line and everything is ok; plug this phone back in and the fault reappears. i know this isnt an expensive phone, but i'd expect better life-span than 12 months!

It seems a reasonably priced model, not too bad looking and with more than enough features for most people looking for a standard home phone (certainly far more than I make use of).

Battery life on the first I purchased lasted almost six months before it died. I purchased a spare battery from BT and that too died. I thought perhaps I'd been unlucky and purchased another new phone - as I said, I was more than happy with it other than that - and the second phone (And therefore third battery) lasted only three months before calltime dropped to less than 30 minutes; it's now around 15. This is even when the phone is returned to the base unit between calls, and when only a couple of calls are made each day.

I have no intention of paying for another - it may be the phone, the charger/ base unit or simply a bad batch of batteries, but it is clearly a gamble and therefore a total waste of money.
