BT 650 The best for elderly, 11 Feb 2007
This telephone is very good and very easy to use. It has big buttons and thus makes it ideal for the elderly or those with poor vision. It has loudspeaker also. The menu is easy to navigate.
There are 2 downsides in this phone [...]First, the buttons are not lit. Second, it has 3 ring tones only.

Happy with my purchase, 22 April 2007
Yep. I think that I made a good choice here. There are loads on the market with different features, and I could have researched them forever, but this is good enough for me. Big buttons, answerphone but most important handsfree. No need to hold the receiver against your ear for hours whilst you listen to recorded messages and music - carry on doing something else until you hear a human at the other end! Backscreen is lit up too, so you can see who is calling you first. Phonebook is enough for all my regular contacts. Very easy to set up too. Only slight moan is the ringtone...not much choice (3) and not very loud. A standard ring would have been fine.

Almost there, 4 Jun 2008
We previously owned Binatone home phones which, after about 6 months of quite frankly wondering why we bought them (horribly awkward things with small buttons) chucked away and bought this package.
I for one can't stand fiddly phones with small buttons and, basically, a small casing just so it looks modern. I don't care! These BT Freestyle Phones however are the perfect size and fit quite well into your hand, though they are on the chunky side. The buttons are nice and large, roughly the size of a 5p Coin, and make life alot easier. The menu is easy to navigate with again large buttons layed out simply, named simply, so setting these guys up takes around 2 minutes, if that.
But the answer machine is just perfect. No traulling through button combinations, just use the giant buttons on the base to Play, Stop, go to the next and previous messages, and delete all with the touch of a button. This is what real 'modern' is all about' simplicity is design and outcome. I'd say it's the best answer machine we've had to date.
Even adjusting the handset volume is a doddle; dedicated Volume Up and Down buttons are on the handset! Even the loudspeaker button is right near your index finger.
Their is a flaw though in the handset design. They're particularly light, and thus can get knocked off their unit easily.
We also had to take them back. After a day or so we noticed that their was an annoying hissing/feedback notice from the handsets, and confirmed it was our sets after ringing other people and asking them. Rang up BT who weren't much help; gave us the usual stuff about how "it was out problem" and that "their really is no need to take them back; I'm sure you can put up with it" (Just about sums up how much Mr Indian man cared!). Coincidentally, it wasn't our problem, and we found these phones to be over-priced dramatically. We searched on Amazon and found the following Panasonic package (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-KXTG7122ES-Cordless-Telephone-Answering/dp/B000FIDD2Y/ref=cm_pdp_review_teaser_product) to not only be far cheaper, but alot, lot better quality.
And guess what? No hissing, no feedback.
It's a difficult one to sum up. This hissing/distortion issue may not be an issue for everyone. If it's not, this is a great package, but I'd look around for better prices.
