3.0 out of 5 stars Great value for money, but a mite disappointing, 22 Mar 2007
By Tim Bentley (Shetland, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Having had hands free DECT phones with an answering service I was quite used to the quirks of such technology, and so when my aged Binatone devices finally succumbed to failure I cast about looking for a quad phone set that gave me the same and more. The BT Freestyle 7150 seems on first glance to provide just that. The hands free operation is as it says on the tin, the quad phone functionality is as expected and there are a few nice touches like the ability to share the stored phone numbers to other hand sets so they can be synchronised.

Installation was a doddle as was customisation of the answering service and the handsets, but that is when I noticed certain niggles that have quite disappointed me. Firstly, each handset has a base (no surprises there), but on each base there is a red LED which is always on when the base is powered whether charging the handset or not. In the bedroom the light is bright enough to be very noticeable. That's irritation #1.

Irritation #2 is the poor design of the handset to have the menu buttons around the other way to many of the other manufacturers DECT or mobile phone offerings. For instance, instead of pressing the left button to select an entry, the select is on the right with the backup button on the left! The instinctive reaction is to press the backup rather than the select.

Irritation #3 is the quality of the hands free speaker - a might tinny and causes the irremovable belt clip to vibrate.

The three irritations aside, the package is pretty reasonable and will certainly suffice. As I said, there are some great features: the ability to share numbers, the conference call capability, SMS functionality and a great answer phone. I'm certainly not sorry I bought this package despite the red 'beacon' on the bases, especially at the price I paid on Amazon.
