5.0 out of 5 stars very impressed!, 22 Sep 2006
By P. Bossert (London) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
I did a lot of research before selecting this model. Here's what I found by reading reviews here and elsewhere:

Although DECT is an old and outdated standard it still offers the best quality / range for wireless handsets, so it's worth sticking with.

The better looking handsets (such as Motorola DECT phones) look the part but either feel cheap or have really tinny sound quality and don't work very well. The 6250 doesn't look quite as stylish as a modern mobile phone, but it's still smart and well made. The sound quality is very good.

A common grumble in most handset reviews is that the display is too small and has no backlight. The 6250 has a decent display with a blue backlight. The menus are very easy to use and understand, too.

Another common grumble in answerphone reviews is that the answerphone kicks in too quickly. The 6250 allows you to set the delay time - I have mine set to 30s which is plenty.

Another common grumble is that answerphones (a) have terrible sound quality (most Philips) because they uses too low a digital sample rate or (b) don't annunciate date and time of message. The 6250 makes good quality recordings, has plenty of memory, annuncates the date and time, and has an easy-to-use playback facility via the base station or via the handsets.

Set-up was easy. I have even added an older (Siemens) DECT handset to the base-station group without any difficulty. Copying names / nos from a SIM was easy, too, although it's worth noting that most mobiles keep their numbers in a memory these days as the SIM is a bit limited in space, so you have to transfer them first.

So, well done BT on sourcing an excellent product. I'm glad I bought it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff, 2 Aug 2006

I have bought this item to replace my ageing Panasonic dect phone. I bought this phone because it suited my needs and I liked the look. The performance is very good. Easy to use. Good Screen. Voice quality is good, and the earpiece is very good with several settings - louder than my Panasonic. The copy from simcard is excellent, and you can copy your phonebook from one phone to the other without having to re-enter it. Dislikes - none as yet. Overall very impressed and happy with choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money, 25 April 2007
By rachelcreative (Midlands, UK) - See all my reviews

Excellent cordless phones. Had this set for a few months now and we're happy.

    Good things:
Excellent sound, very clear to hear and be heard.
Range great - handles brick walls fine.
Easy to get started and use.
Nice shape and comfortable in my hand - not a heavy handset.
Transfer numbers from your SIM card to the handset very nifty. Transfer one number or whole phone book. Transfer from one SIM card then another if you like. Just copying data over.
Change ringtone for handsets and base unit - each can be different - all from the handset.
Simple indications of missed calls and new messages.
    Call from handset to handset.
Choose to mute ring on handset(s) and/or base unit. Each can be set individually - as can volume.
Second handset has a compact charger/stand and handsets can be interchanged between base unit and second charger. You can also rename each handset from their default Handset 1 and Handset 2 - although it will always show the number of the handset (eg. 1 or 2)
Clear readable display with decent sized text - bigger text than my mobile phone for instance.

    Not so good things:
Haven't got on so well with the inbuilt speaker phone. EG.with phone resting on my lap person other end said I kept going loud then quiet.
SIM card transfer isn't intelligent - so won't synchronise or look for duplicate numbers. Pull out tray for SIM card felt a bit flimsy - not too bad as I expect average user doesn't use it much after intially setting up phonebooks.
Phone book is done by handset - each holds their own phonebook. Could be an advantage if you want them for different purposes on the same line - but a bit annoying for me as I need to copy SIM and manually keep the directories on each handset in synch.
You can choose between pre-set ring tones but not all the handset tones are available for the base unit. My preferred ring tone is set on handsets but base unit has to have a different ring - which is a bit weird when they all ring together (you could switch base unit ringer off if you wanted).
When you switch off power to base unit (to move a socket for instance) it resets the clock and date. It seems to remember everything else (call logs, last dialled, phone book) at least for a short switch off with handset charged up.

On the whole the niggles do not effect my rating of excellent - these are only fairly minor things. The only thing I am disappointed about is the handsfree/loud speaker built into the handset - but it is possible to buy a handsfree kit to plug into the handset so that might solve my issue.

Overally really pleased and feel they are well worth the money.
