Lullabies

The 250 comes combined with a wide-range of lullabies (from Mozart to "twinkle, twinkle"), all of which have been proven to calm and relax babies.

Huge Range for a Digital Baby Monitor

It has a huge range of 50 m indoors and 300 m outdoors, so you can be sure to always be in contact as you move around your home.

Rechargeable Batteries

The parent unit contains rechargeable batteries, giving you the freedom to move around normally within your home while still keeping contact with your baby.

Nightlight and Torch

Once baby is asleep, keeping them undisturbed is always important. The featured nightlight and torch functions allow you to find your way around baby's room without having to turn on the main light.

Check the Temperature, Set Reminders

The BT Baby Monitor 250 comes with a screen on the parental unit that allows you to check the temperature, change the lullabies and set reminders, wherever you are. The 250 also includes a temperature-changing nightlight that changes depending on how warm baby's room is. This allows you to see if the room is too hot or cold at a glance.

Alerts and Reminders

Set a reminder for bed time, feeding or even your favourite TV programme. All of our monitors come with various modes of alerting you to sounds in the baby's room--full sound monitoring, beeping, flashing lights, or vibrating--ideal for when you’re busy doing other things and need to put the monitor in your pocket.

Getting the Best from Your BT Monitor

Easy Set Up

  • Activate the batteries by ensuring that the plastic tag at the bottom of the Parent Unit is completely removed
  • Connect one of the power adaptor cables into the socket on the back of the Parent Unit charger, connect to a mains electrical socket and switch on
  • Place the Parent Unit onto charge and ensure that the red charging light on the charger unit is illuminated and that the battery icon on the Parent Unit is scrolling
  • Leave the Unit on charge for approximately 16 hours--You can speed up the charging process by switching the Parent Unit off
  • Connect the remaining power adaptor cable into the socket on the back of the Baby Unit and connect this to a mains electrical socket and switch on. Once the units are linked, the green Link indicators on the Parent and Baby units will stop flashing and remain a steady green
  • Should you encounter any problems during this process, please call the BT helpdesk on *free phone 0808 1006554
*Calls made from within the UK mainland network are free. Mobile and international call costs may vary.

Encountering a Beeping Noise

If you hear a ‘beeping’ warning noise from the Parent unit but are not sure why, we offer the following advice:

  • Is the link light also flashing? Check that the Baby Unit is illuminated. If it is not, please ensure that the power adaptor is still connected and if this still does not switch on, please test using a different electrical socket
  • Check that the Feed Timer is not set
  • Check that the Crying Alert is not switched on
  • Is the temperature icon also flashing? Is the temperature too hot? If so, adjust the temperature alert
Additional Guidance Tips
  • Try switching the Baby Unit off at the power and removing the batteries from the Parent Unit for approximately 30 minutes
  • Ensure that none of the buttons are stuck down. If they are, trying cleaning first with a damp cloth or call the helpdesk for advice
  • Try calling the free BT Helpdesk on 0808 1006554 to talk to an advisor

As someone who has tried different types of baby monitor I feel qualified to say that this is a good monitor. It's easy to set up, the sound quality is good and the range is great. My only real criticism is that, in bringing out a new model, they have felt the need to tinker with things that didn't need tinkering with. The 250 is supposed to 'replace' the 150 which was a completely brilliant monitor. With two young children I needed another monitor so I thought I'd go for the new model. Now, if you're a new Mum you will probably want to hear every snuffle your darling baby makes. This won't last and soon you'll only want to be disturbed in the middle of the night if completely necessary, i.e., if the crying is very loud. The 150 had 5 sensitivity levels, 5 being with the microphone permanently on and 1 and 2 where the sound only transmits when the crying on the other end is at a certain volume. This was a brilliant feature but one that BT have felt the need to meddle with. On the 250 you have the option to 'mute low' which still means you hear loud snuffles and murmurs or 'mute all' which completely turns the sound off and there is a 'crying alert' which you turn on. This only emits a beep or buzz when the crying is loud and is far easier to sleep through than actual crying. I have now got used to this but it isn't the best design.

I also must comment on those people who have criticised the monitor for the tolerance on the temperature gauge being +/- 1 degree. IT IS ONLY THERE AS A GUIDE! It's nice to know the temperature but, short of installing air con in the nursery, what are you realistically going to do if the room is 'too hot'? It is only meant to be there so, if you've laid out a long sleeved body suit, a baby gro and a 2.

FAULTY AFTER 6 months. At first I was thrilled with this baby monitor. But then, with 6 months of use, the problems began. The display started to disappear, the battery life got really short (4 or 5 hours), frustrating all my expectations and manufacturer's promises. Also it completely shut down out of nowhere, and so it's not reliable. The reason for which I bought a monitor was not fulfilled anymore. Asked for a refund and bought the Philips Avent.

We bought a second-hand BT150, a brilliant monitor until it develop quite a lot of faults when we guess it was around 3 yrs old. Less than a year ago we got a new BT250 - the updated model - and today I'm shopping for another one because the supposedly improved model (the 250) is basically junk. First the screen started to go (was that meant to be a "2" or an "8" on the temp display?"). Then it would switch off in the middle of the night even when sat on the charger. Now the batteries have died.

But it's not just the faults which have been a let-down. Right from opening the box it was clear BT had halved the production costs but kept the same price. With the old version (the 150) the base unit and parent units had matching screens and controls so you could set lullaby tunes from the base, and also read the temp, and check/change the other settings. On the 250 the base unit has no controls - it is basically a remote microphone and temperature sensor which sends a signal to the parent unit - it has no controls or 'brains' of its own. So setting lullaby tunes, reading the temperature or doing anything, you need to be using the parent unit (the handheld bit). Personally I find this the worst bit of the re-design. For instance I usually set the lullaby song and check the temp as I am tucking my child up - so I therefore need the handheld parent unit with me to do this. That means remembering to bring it to the bedside from our own room, and then remembering to turn the volume down because obviously if you have both units near each other you get screeching feedback!

So there you go. If you can find a second-hand as-new or nearly new BT150 grab it - you'll get 3 years great use from it! But if you are looking at the BT250, don't bother..

This was our 4th baby monitor (they all die after 2 years). After having the excellent BT 150 I decided to go with BT again.

For me the torch and the talk back feature were the key selling points..... must have features.

For starters..... the monitor works well, the sound is good...... top marks on that score

However.......I must agree with a lot of the other reviews that they took the BT150 design and made a total mess of the mute/volume features.

There are 2 !!! Mute buttons on the top of the parent unit. It is very easy to accidentally hit them and unknowingly mute the unit.
Why on earth did they not keep the 150's sensitivity teature

The torch has a brilliant feature in that when you turn the torch on (to go into baby's room) it mutes the sound so you don't get feedback ..... a great feature........however sometimes if you have the torch and the sound on it for some unknown reason mutes the sound when you turn the torch off. As it only does it sometimes, I have been caught out and gone to sleep with the mute on.

In short, I don't trust this monitor as it is too easy to accidentally mute the sound without noticing. A trust is absolutely the 1 feature that you do want in a monitor, it is about the most damping criticism I can make about it.

....PS ... and perhaps this is me being picky...there is a count down timer but not count up timer. I hate that, but in the 250's defense my wife prefers it.
