"a ′must–have′ for the practice or consulting room shelf"
Australian Veterinary Journal

Product Description

The BSAVA Manual of Exotic Pets has been a tried and trusted friend over the years. There are now many more non–traditional pets and both owners and veterinary surgeons have higher expectations of clinical care for these species. It is against this background that this new edition is published. All chapters have been completely revised and updated by 30 international experts.

The BSAVA Manual of Exotic Pets, 4th edition covers an extended species range, including the degu and sugar glider. It also has expanded chapters where information is now in greater demand, such as for the chinchilla. Additional chapters group together clinical anatomy and radiography of the major groups.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential!, 17 Mar 2002
By A Customer
This book is an essential part of the library for any veterinary practise. It forms an excellent basis on which to manage the care of exotic animals ranging from rabbits and small furries to reptiles and birds. As a veterinary nurse I have found it an excellent reference for my portfolio and all round very useful!

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent quick-reference book, 20 Aug 2002
By William E Easson (Buxton, Derbyshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Speaking from the perspective of general practitioners with a special interest in exotics, and with a roughly 60:40 split between dog&cat:exotics, our practice finds this book an excellent quick-reference book.

The authors of the various chapters are not all the "usual suspects"; they are all acknowledged authorities in their fields, but perhaps are not as well known. This brings a refreshing perspective to some of the chapters.

The editors have taken criticism of the previous edition on board and have produced a book which is as modern in its approach to these myriad species as the information it presents.

If you want teaching and depth, go to the more specialised books focusing on the species or order in question. For quick reference, this book is an important purchase for any practice and deserves to become the classic reference its predecessors became. Throw out those old editions!

1.0 out of 5 stars Lacking detail in places, 5 Jul 2002
By A Customer
As a busy small animal practioner, I anticipated a good, quick reference guide, with basic information/husbandry and some information on medicine and surgery. However, I was a little disappointed. I find the the book short on detail in many subject areas, though its breadth is impressive.
