I bought the Brita water filter jug as I was tired of having to suffer limescale in a recently purchased kettle. After only one month the signs of limescale were very evident. So, after discaling the kettle, only filtered water from the jug will be used to fill the kettle. So far, one month further on the kettle is sparkling. Tea and coffee taste better, as does a glass of water straight from the fridge. Installing the new filters is easy. The indicator on top tells you when they need replacing. The slim shape of the jug fits easily in the door compartment of my fridge. You will not regret buying the Brita water filter jug. I didn't.

I had a Brita Fjord jug for years, which used Classic cartridges and I thought I'd upgrade and give the Elemaris a go. The jug itself is fine; the filtered volume of water is marginally less than the old Fjord, but no big deal. The jug can be refilled without removing the top, which is a useful addition (there is a flap built into the lid that opens as soon as you put it under the tap, and it's cleverly constructed so that it closes once the top bit is full). Now for the flaws: 1) I bought a new cartridge for my old jug and replaced it at the same time as trying out the new Maxtra cartridge. The old Classic cartridge filters more quickly so you begin to wonder why you are paying more for a Maxtra cartridge (and there are no "generics") 2) The intelligent meter supposedly measures volume, quality of water AND time. Perhaps I am not using the jug enough so volume is not the restricting factor, but essentially mine seems to be counting down every week, just like the old meters 3)Pouring. The old jug was made so that even if the top bit had some water in it, the jug still poured properly. In other words, the top bit was water-tight when pouring. Not for the new jug. If you happen to overfill it you will regret it when you pour a glass of water all over the table. Overall the jug absolutely does its job, but I'm not sure it's worth the extra expense compared to other more basic jugs, and I'd stick to Classic models if possible.

I used to use bottled water for drinking and cooking, until I purchased this jug. Overall I am very pleased with the purchase. The design is good, it looks elegant, and you don't need to open the lid to fill the water which is convenient. However, I agree with previous customer reviews that it leaks from the handle if filled to the top (hence 4 stars). I can definitely taste the difference between filtered water and tap water, it's got rid of the bleachy smell of tap water, and gives the water a slightly sweet/pure taste.

There's a BRITA Meter in the lid, which is "the first intelligent cartridge exchange indicator with 3 Way measurement of water quality". This is somewhat convenient because it tells you when to change the cartridge. However I'm not too sure whether this actually gives an accurate measurement of the water quality, or it's just another posh version of the 'Memo' indicator found on some other BRITA jugs, which typically tells you to change after 1 month. This speculation initially came up as I saw the metering pins were actually in contact with the unfiltered water at the top part of the jug (i.e., not yet being filtered through the cartridge), so measuring the quality of unfiltered water is pointless in my opinion, and I can't justify the quality of unfiltered tap water changing from 100% to 0% over a matter of weeks. Well, I could be wrong, perhaps I haven't quite grasped the measuring mechanism of it yet. Anyway the other evidence was that, I went on a 1-week trip during which I obviously didn't use the jug, but the indicator still prompted me to change new cartridge after about 1 month of use (I didn't use it heavily in the other 3 weeks either). Having said that, even if it's just another version of 'memo' indicator which promps you to change the cartridge after 1 month, it's still better than not having it at all.

great product, lovely water (straight from the tap is horrid, especially the smell), the filter obviously works. the jug is a nice shape. because it is so large though it is heavy once full so not great if you have problems with wrists etc. it does fit in fridge door though. highly recommend but only 4 stars because of weight and also a bit tricky to pour when full,

This jug is useless as the little lid for the spout falls off every time it is used. It is not a case of the plastic being broken as the lugs on the lid are not big enough to hold it in place. Please do not buy this item as you will be very dissappointed with it.

This isn't the first Brita 'Maxtra'-type water filter jug I've used. The first was a Brita Aluna Xl. That was o.k. - well, I'm still using it - but it has a fairly limited capacity and the 'memo' cartridge meter function is pretty basic, simply warning you when you've been using the same filter for a while.

But this one is much better. For a start, the meter actually does a bit more than simply time the usage. According to the manual, the meter:

'...monitors the filtration performance and indicates the remaining cartridge life . The three-way measurement takes into consideration the volume of water filtered, water quality (hardness) and time'.

So, whereas the meter on the Aluna simply sits on top of the jug, this one has a couple of sensors that dip into the pre-filtered water. It also indicates when water is going through the system by displaying a flashing row of drops.

Another feature of this water filter jug is that you don't have to take the lid off in order to fill it (unlike the 'Aluna'). There is a covered hole in the top on a spring. When you run water on to it, it drops down, allowing the water to enter. Of course, the first time I filled it, I opened the tap far to wide with the result I sprayed myself and the whole kitchen with water - but, after a little practise, I determined the force of water required to open the trap door without soaking the kitchen.

It certainly seems to have a much larger capacity than my previous 'Aluna' model. That is good, but it does also mean that the jug is pretty hefty when full. Still, it has a very sturdy rubberised hand grip that feels solid and more than capable of handling the weight.
