Living in a hard water area limescale is constantly evident in all appliances that use water. What is not so evident is the fact that drinking hard water can taste quite so different to filtered water.
A water filter jug is now an obvious alternative to drinking straight from the tap. Not only will using a jug (if kept in the fridge) keep it cold, but it does indeed taste better.
The Brita Elemaris is a sleek design if only let down by a rather protruding handle which takes up more room than you might like it too in a fairly small fridge. That said, it is rather slim and will fit into most fridge doors.
Once full it does weigh a fair bit, so may not be suitable for frail or people with limited wrist/arm strength. That said, it would be obvious perhaps not to fill the jug completely to limit the weight!
The filter is the most impressive (and let's be honest) the reason you would consider purchasing this jug. There are four stages to this advanced filtration system, which do everything from removing larger particles which are present in tap water, through to 'Ion Exchange Filtration' which will significantly reduce hardness and therefore limescale build-up. The Carbon filter significantly reduces the smell and taste by removing chlorine, and pesticides and organic impurities (nice).
It's all good stuff, and the water delivered is far better than that from the tap. You'll need to change the filter every few weeks - depending on the water hardness in your area, as well as how much you use it. Filters look to be around the £4 - £5 mark.

I've used a Brita water filter jug for many years without too much complaint. Then this comes along and I realise I've been living in the stone age. The look and feel have been radically improved, with rubberised feet adding stability and a handy water filling aperture allowing refills without removing the lid. The water tastes great and I welcome the feature that takes the hardness of our water into account in working out how frequently we need to change filters.
I wasn't impressed with the advice given with the product - in particular that tea and coffee do not count towards your required fluid intake: this is flatly contradicted by almost all the scientific advice I have read.
However, Brita's appetite for cartridge renewals aside, this is a great product that I look forward to using for many years.

I like the fact it fits into my (smallish) fridge door without forcing it in. Yet it still holds a useful near 1.5 litres of filtered water.
The water runs through the filter unit quite quickly so there's not too much hanging around when the level of water gets low. And of course, the cartidge shows you when its abiltity to filter the water is nearing depletion, which actually is quite often. I found the cartridge continued to work for a week even after it was apparently exhausted!
To be absolutely honest I'm not sure I could actually taste the difference in water quality but it certainly showed up in the cups of tea I made which were now a golden amber instead of a muddy brown - and the tea no longer stains the insides of the cups, presumably because there's no chalk left in the water for the tannin to attach itself to.
All-in-all a decent addition to my kitchen appliances and one I'd now hate to dispense with.

Does as advertised.
Good value for money and does as described, filter replacements are costly however. Pleased with the non-slip grip on the base of the Jug, works very well.
