Product Description

Listed in the Wall Street Journal as the #1 Bestselling Action/Adventure in their "Readers Guide to Self-Published Big Sellers" (Dec 9, 2011).

When terminally ill combat pilot Jake Bronson emerges from an MRI with extraordinary cognitive powers, everyone wants a piece of his talent--including Battista, one of the world's most dangerous terrorists.  To save his love and her autistic child, Jake is thrust into a deadly chase that leads from the canals of Venice through Monte Carlo and finally to an ancient cavern in the Hindu Kush Mountains of Afghanistan--where Jake discovers that his newfound talents carry a hidden price that threatens the entire human race.

An original weave of current events bound by colorful locations and cutting-edge technology, Bard's novel is a must-read for fans of Michael Crichton, James Rollins, Clive Cussler, and Brad Thor. A dynamic mix of fast-paced action and thought provoking soul, this book challenges the reader to keep pace with every sharp turn and shocking twist. Acclaimed by fans of action, sci-fi, and political thrillers alike, Brainrush is one of the most innovative and entertaining books of the year.

BRAINRUSH was in the top-10 of the Amazon-USA Top-Rated List for over four months straight.  The sequel, "BRAINRUSH-II, The Enemy of My Enemy", was released early December to rave reviews. Within a few weeks it became the #1 Top-Rated Action/Adventure AND the #1 Top-Rated Mystery/Thriller on Amazon USA--where it remains today (April 27, 2012):

Reviews:

"Brainrush explores the bonds of friendship while pushing the boundaries of science, creating a compelling, action-packed thriller with a climax that's a knock-out!"
- CJ Lyons, New York Times Best-Selling Author

"A terrifically entertaining thriller with three finely executed set pieces strung together with nice characterization. Especially successful is Bronson, an amiable, low-key tough guy able to rescue his princess, survive brutality, and retain a sense of humor."
- Publishers Weekly 2011*

"If this startling debut doesn't have you turning pages at breakneck speed, then you're not paying attention. Rich characters, crackling dialogue, and a climactic sequence that is stunning, enervating, and innovative all at once. Richard Bard is a voice to be reckoned with."
- Rebecca Forster, USA Today Best-Selling Author

"An inventive and compelling hybrid of science fiction, adventure, and political thriller. Rather than end the novel with a simple rescue operation, however, this author provides a far more intriguing and unexpected conclusion.
- Publishers Weekly 2010*

*Note: As a semifinalist in the 2010 and 2011 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards, the unpublished Brainrush manuscript received two separate reviews from Publishers Weekly

This title is also available in audiobook. The sequel, "BRAINRUSH II, The Enemy of My Enemy" is also available.

About the Author

As a young Air Force pilot, Richard Bard learned that he had only a few months to live. But he beat the odds. He earned a management degree from the University of Notre Dame and after leaving the Air Force he ran three successful companies involving advanced security products used by US embassies and government facilities worldwide. He was an active member of the California Crime Prevention Officer’s Association and has been published with cover stories in Security magazine and ASIS Security Management magazine. Cancer killed Richard Bard’s career as a USAF pilot. But it didn’t kill him. Thirty-six years later he’s still going strong. Now he writes about second chances in the BRAINRUSH thriller series. When asked what he hopes to achieve as a writer, he said, “The dream for me is to be walking through an airport and notice someone with her head buried in the book. Many readers have said they found it impossible to put down. For me, that's the ultimate compliment.” Bard currently resides with his wonderful wife in Redondo Beach, California, where he remains in excellent health. Book Two of the series is scheduled for release in December, 2011

One of the things I loved about this fast paced thriller, is that apart from Venice, which Richard Bard depicts so incredibly vividly in full Technicolor 3-D, I've never been to any of the other exotic places he brings so graphically to life, and yet I felt I was right there with his amazing cast of characters, with the sound and the action happening all around me. Afghanistan, Kuwait, Monaco and - where it all starts, Redondo Beach, California - and back again to romantic Venice, where it ends.

The main character, the charismatic pilot, Jake Bronson, has been diagnosed with cancer and given a few months to live. A unique and extraordinary accident during an MRI scan leaves him with the unprecedented and enviable cognitive powers that give him the ability to live out the rest of his short life able to combat the evil intentions of the arch villain - Luciano Battista, a terrorist who is aiming to - well I'm not going to tell you - you'll have to read it to find out.

Backed by his loyal team of Tony, Marshall and Lacey, Jake overcomes one nail-biting disaster after another to save the life of the woman he loves - Francesca, the beautiful psychologist working with autistic children who has succumbed to Battista's evil machinations. These characters are so finely drawn that I felt I knew them. But wait till you meet the villains - Battista and his gang of evil thugs! Bard must have drawn heavily on his innate novelist's imagination to have created such brutes.

Without this being in any way autobiographical, Bard has undoubtedly drawn on his own wide and varied experiences to bring detail and authenticity to every meticulously researched scene he writes. Much of the action could not have been written by anybody who had not gone through the drama and horror he brings to life with his concise yet flowing prose.

This is a wonderful thriller - and there's a sequel! Don't miss it.

Absolutely Loved It! Brainrush took me on adventure around the world that captivated my imagination and kept my adrenaline pumping with every turn of the page. I am not a normal reader of thriller books, but Richard Bard's writing debut has made me a convert with the unpredictable hairpin turns that took me from Hermosa Beach (my hometown) to the canals of Venice, the glitz of Monte Carlo and and finally Afghanistan. I could totally relate to Jake, the main character who is a guy's guy with an edge, and puts it all on the line to pursue and rescue the beautiful and alluring Francesca. I especially love the visual imagery that makes the cities, characters and actions scenes come alive. My only regret is that I have to wait until the end of the year for the next book.

I really enjoyed reading this book and found it very hard to put down. It had a very original concept even though impossible to occur, but it is a fictional work after all. On finishing it, I immediately ordered the sequel and am hurtling through that as well. I hope there are more books to come with Jake and his buddies!
