The first album from the Glasgow band and in my view the best! The guitarist,Hugh Nicholson was in the band Marmalade for a couple of years before forming Blue with Ian MacMillan and drummer Timmy Donald has worked with Richard Thompson and John Cale!
The album is a mixture of great ballads and some fine rockers,"Little Jody",which was a single and "Sitting on a fence",plus the happy/loopy "Skye banana boat song"
My favourite track is "I wish I could fly" with a beautiful guitar solo from Nicholson
A fine band!

THE BAND BLUE ARE A CLASS ACT FROM SCOTLAND AND THIS WAS THEIR FIRST ALBUM. JUST LIKE THEIR FOLLOW UP ALBUM LIFE IN THE NAVY, BLUE HAS A COLLECTION OF FIRST CLASS WELL EXECUTED TRACKS WITH A VERY HIGH QUALITY RECORDED SOUND. THE MIDDLE OF THE 70's HAD MANY TALENTED EASY LISTENING BANDS WHO WROTE THEIR OWN MATERIAL AND BLUE ARE RIGHT UP THERE WITH THE BEST.

I purchased this album on vinyl when it was released - they were featured on Old Grey Whistle Test. Since moving to CD format I have been trying to find a CD copy and until now have only seen an occasional foreign copy at very high price. Found this on Amazon and was very happy. Great to hear it again and it will certainly be high on my regular play list.

If ever an example of the cruelty of the music industry was needed then Blue can provide it. This divine debut album, recorded in Scotland and mostly penned by Hugh Nicholson (ex - The Poets and Marmalade), and critically acclaimed by no less than John Peel hardly made an impression. The songs, harmonies and variations in style are a true delight to anyone with an ear for music...full stop! The band then went on the play in America, in, amongst other places, the famous Troubadour (regular venue of Crosby, Stills and Nash, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne etc) and found themselves having their second album, 'Life In The Navy' produced by no less than Elliot Mazer (who had produced Neil Young's "Harvest"). Again unrecognised they returned to the UK, signed to Elton John's Rocket label, and from their 3rd Album (Another Night Time Flight, produced by Elton himself) had their only hit, 'Capture Your Heart'. How such talent dips below the radar of popular opinion is to me, mysterious and sad for bands with such talent. That they are still going is testament to their dogged determination and undeniable talent - buy, play and enjoy time and time again!

this is a fantastic album, I bought the single Little Jodie, back in the day, I then won this album from a 'Sounds' music paper competition and loved it from day one, over the years I have snapped up a couple of spare vinyl copies and even transcribed my original to digital, now it's on CD....can't resist, so bought it. if you like 70's pop/rock you won't be disappointed.
