We bought some furniture for the Television to sit on and realised that the ancient glass-and-silver hi fi unit would look awful sitting beside our new furniture, so had a look around and came up with this little beauty.
This is one silid piece of kit. It is heavy, takes a large amount of weight, and although it appears very 'blocky' in the image, once you have your hi fi on there and it is in situ it really does look the business. And because of its block nature, it HIDES ALL THE WIRES so no more unsightly wires all over the place!
The best thing of all is that you can change around the size of the blocks according to where you want your hi fi components to go - take a look at the image of this, and imagine the larger 'space' at the TOP of the item - this is how we aligned ours for ease of use and to prevent humongous amounts of wires bending!
The unit comes flat packed, but unlike other flat pack items, this one is heavy in the box and sturdy when being made up - part of it is a two-person job to put together unless you are a professional juggler (plate spinning would come in handy at this stage) but most of it is straightforward and easy to assemble. You begin with four rods, add a block each to the pairs, then add your first shelf on top. Thereafter it becomes easy, straightforward and one-erson job to pop together.
There are a few points to note which could be handy when putting one of these items together;
- it states in the maual that you create this upside down - take care when you do to make sure ALL the glass you can see is matt finish and that the large holes in the glass are aligned at one side. It is all too easy to flip one of the shelves and have to disassemble because of a small error. It is distinct, the hole is at one side and one side of the glass is dull and matt, the other being gloss, but it is equally an easy mistake to make.
- you may need a thin round rasp to bore out a couple of the holes. Two of the holes in the blocks were slightly blocked, not a major issue, and it took only minutes to fix, but it is worth having the tool to hand.
- make sure you align the FRONT of the item before its final tightening, we had to undo ours slightly when we got to this stage to slightly nudge the blocks into place.
Other than that, it went together like a charm and looks positiveley stunning. HIGHLY reccomended!
