Worth the wait 7 July 2009
By David Johnson VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
This is another strong compilation from Strut focussing on the black music of Brazil from the 1970's. What we get is an eclectic mix of funk, soul and smooth samba rhythms.
Pete Dunaway's "Supermarket," is painfully soulful - a real stand out track. The source of Pete's name is given in the set of comprenhensive liner notes. "Nao Vou Chorar," is interesting - a really funky backbone with that soft, trademark Brazilian voice over the top.
This can be definitely be filed in the rare groove category - most of the artists I had never heard of, despite having a reasonable knowledge of Brazilian music.
Recommended summer listening.
