5.0 out of 5 stars Top notch racer, up there with GT4, 14 Jun 2006

I had been eagerly awaiting this game before it was even released, because recently I played the excellent Squadra Corse Alfa Romeo on Xbox, by the same developers, and then after playing the PC demo of this game; Evolution GT I was hungry for more, but had a hunch that the PS2 version would be better than the PC version and I was right, the handling was far superior, but to my surprise the graphics were actually as good on the PS2 version as the PC, they look incredible, on a par with GT4's.

The game has about half the tracks from the last game SCAR, and added some new ones such as Barcelona, London, Munich, Monaco, Corse etc and they are fantastic, truly beautiful tracks to drive.

IF your wondering about this game, I say get it, you won't regret it, it's one of the better racers around these days from a developer I'm a big fan of: Milestone, they are responsible for the old Screamer series and World Superbikes series on the PC, and of late Racing Evoluzione and SCAR on the Xbox. I'm now looking forward to their next racing release this September, Superbikes Riding Challenge, these Italian developers certainly know a thing or two about making racing games.

4.0 out of 5 stars Evolution GT, 3 Jun 2006

The first game to actually do something different with the racing genre, upgrade the driver and not the car. And, it works! As the game progresses you get points which you can spend on upgrading your drivers skills and as the game progresses it becomes very good. The graphics are slick, there is a full damage on all cars, the selection of tracks is good and the cars all look and handles differently. Once your driver has a certain level of skill, this is up there with the best!

Ok, this isn't a bad racing game by any means. Having played all serious racing games it's a mid-fielder.
The graphics are good, cars and landscapes well rendered. The handling of the cars is pretty good until you hit the breaks. With the pressure sensitive pad you have no feel and either lock up and go straight off or break too softly and be too slow.

The aim of the game is nothing different but the upgrades to the drivers skill is a new one, although I thought I was the driver?! Do my skills not count!

There are some real cheesy areas to this game too. I'm a big racing fan, touring cars particularly. But Gabriele Tarquini's videos are just toe curlingly bad.
Drafting other drivers give big wooshy air lines off of the car in front - off putting and silly. Pressure from drivers behind make your view totally blurred and obscured. You'll just go off the track and/or crash.

I played this game for about two weeks now-and-then and then went back to the likes of GT4, Race Driver 3 and Race (WTCC) on PC. Haven't played it since.

In conclusion this game will keep you entertained for a while but you'll soon go off it and move on.
