I always use Bissell-branded cleaning formula and have tried most of them. To be perfectly honest, I have not noticed any difference between the basic `Fibre Cleansing Formula', `Lavender Essence' or `Wash and Protect' (standard or pet) in terms of cleaning ability; they all get the carpet clean (I always deal with small incidents with the spot cleaner first). I have also found no discernible difference between those that contain Scotchgard and the ones that do not - the carpets seem to get just as dirty (or stay just as clean) whichever I use.
My decision about which shampoo/cleaning formula to use is based almost purely on price. I tend to buy in threes as this is generally the most cost efficient permutation and then buy whichever is the cheapest - that is usually the `Fibre Cleansing Formula' (but check bottle sizes when doing a comparison as they are not all the same). All of the cleaning fluids smell nice although I do like the smell of the `Lavender Essence' formula, just not enough to make it worth paying a lot more, particularly as the smell fades within a short while.
I always wet the carpet with one pass of the cleaner without shampoo and then do one pass with shampoo as that seems to produce the best results without using too much of the formula.
I would recommend the `Fibre Cleansing Formula' for most situations, backed up by an OxyKic spot cleaner.Read more ›
As for the shampoo itself....i love the smell and it brings a lot of dirt out of my carpets that i didn't even know was there. If this is your first time shampoo-ing your carpets be warned, the water will be black after. But it just proves it works!

The rental we bought this for stank when we first moved in, and the carpets were awful. Nice smell of lavender throughout the house when we finished cleaning it though. Read morePublished 3 days ago by Ben Woodford
