Product Description

Size: 1 l

Dragging a blade across your face every day doesn't have to be a grind. Reinvent the lost art of smooth shaving with Hydroplane Shave Cream, a rich, technologically-advanced, foamless cream that keeps you looking sharp and feeling noticed. After all, sometimes it isn't nice to play rough. Traditional foam shave creams are comprised mainly of air and tiny bubbles. These tiny bubbles provide the cushion between your face and a razor. Unfortunately, they don't provide much cushion or lubrication which often results in razor drag, nicks and ingrown hairs.

Hydroplane Shave Cream, on the other hand, is comprised of millions of beads of water-soluble, micro-silicone. This ingredient provides much more lubrication which results in greater razor glide. The water-soluble part means that the product does not break down when it comes into contact with water. Instead, it becomes slicker and slicker, ensuring a close but comfortable shave.

I thought I'd wait to have a few shaves before reviewing.... I normally shave using a hard soap a DE razor and badger brush.....

Gives a very smooth shave. Noticeably so.
Gives a closer shave. Again noticeable so.
It's half the price though Amazon

It's a real razor clogger! This is not a problem for a DE razor which can be taken apart, but might be so for a disposable. The remaining gunk after a shave does not easily wash out.
I prefer using a brush and soap. Massaging this quite greasy cream on is not as nice. But this is balanced with the results.

If you're a DE shaver, try it.

To give some context, to aid you in deciding whether this stuff is the right one for you - I am a double edge blade user with a thick stubble. My shaving technique is mostly blade buffing.
For shave gels, I have used the Zirh shave gel (blue gloop), the Kyoku Shave Creme (green gloop), and Jack Blacks Beard Lube (white gloop).
This stuff, for me, is the best of the gloops. It is a pretty thick white gel, and rubs in to the beard well. It gives a very slick surface and it is easy to see where you have shaved, which can be an issue with clear gels.
It always gives a comfortable shave, even if I haven't bothered to soften my beard with shower or hot towel or pre-shave gel.
For 3 day or more stubble, it works great too, but then again, older stubble tends to be softer anyway and you get a close comfortable shave just from that.
For closeness, it is the best of the above three for me and gives a great smooth result. I don't end up with shaving rash after. It leaves the skin well moisturised.
I couldnt say how long a tube would last, but you dont need to squeeze out that much to cover your face.
I've tried it using a gillette cartridge, and they dont play well. The lubra-strips on the cartridges just end up gumming up with the gel. Man up and use a DE or maybe even a straight!
Overall, I've found my no-lather quick-prep go-to solution.

This performs well on a few days growth, but for everyday shaving I don't find this offers as much protection as Anthony Shave Gel 226gm or even King of Shaves Alphagel Cooling Methol Shaving Gel - 150 ml. I sometimes get a few weepers/tiny cuts when I use this, which I never get when using the other gels.

To paraphrase Shakespeare, if hair be wires, then wires grow on my chin. After years of using Braun dry electric shavers, I tried a Panasonic ES8228S wet/dry model in three ways: on a dry face the first day, on a wet face the second, and with Billy Jealousy Hydroplane Shaving Cream the third. On the third day, I obtained the closest and smoothest shave ever. Since there is no foam, the moisture is no greater than that of an electric pre-shave lotion, and without the alcohol; I suspect this product could also be used with a Braun dry shaver, but one would need to wipe the body of the shaver carefully rather than run it under water with the cutter facing down, as one can with either the Panasonic model or the more expensive Philips Norelco 1260x. Esquire Magazine has rated this shaving cream the best available, according to a sticker on the bottle. The industrial size (33.8 ounces) offered by Amazon is available at a significant discount per ounce.

The best shaving lubricant I've ever used. 16 Mar 2006
By Dennis - Published on
Size Name: 236 ml
Billy Jealousy's Hydroplane shave cream is a lotion-style shave cream (ie. it doesn't foam when applied to your skin). According to the packaging, it's made up of millions of "micro sillicone beads". It does have a slightly gritty feel to it (though nothing at all uncomfortable), which makes the "sillicone bead" description sound reasonable.

Applying Hydroplane is pretty simple: just rub it into your skin after you've thoroughly moistened it with water, then shave normally. Hydroplane is persistent, so it won't dry up like some shaving lubricants, and it doesn't require any additional water after it's been applied. It'll easily last through your entire shave.

Lubrication, irritation protection, and nick protection are all excellent. Hydroplane washes out of your blade very easily, too, with one of the lowest gunk factors I've experienced in a shaving lubricant. As shaving lubricants go, I can find no fault with this one.

Hydroplane is a premium product in every sense of the word. A 236ml (8 ounce) bottle retails for $20 from the Billy Jealousy website (at this writing). The bottle's a good size, and it'll last a while (you only need a small amount for each shave), but it's still very expensive.

Overall, Billy Jealousy's Hydroplane shave cream may be the best shaving lubricant I've ever used (and I've used dozens of them over the years). It's expensive, but it's worth the price, in my opinion. If you're looking for a very close, comfortable shave with no irritation, Hydroplane is very much worth trying out. I am impressed.

The Best Shave Cream, Period. 9 Jun 2007

This stuff is amazing. Without a doubt, the smoothest shave I have ever had. Don't be put off by the price. A little of this stuff goes a long way. I use one tube of it every 10 to 11 months. However, DO NOT PURCHASE the Hot Towel lotion that is made to go along with it. It actually will actually make the shave cream less effective. The hydroplane shave is fine all on its own. Buy this stuff now!

Innovative, Effective, and DAMN Cool! 23 Feb 2006
By Joshua Gordon - Published on

I've been using Hydroplane (along with the Hot Towel pre-shave treatment and Shaved Ice after shave) for just under a year now, and couldn't be happier! After reading a review of the Hot Towel in a national magazine (I believe it was Stuff), I decided to switch from a competing product, and give this brand a shot...

Hydroplane is great stuff! I can't remember the last time I had such a close shave with ZERO irritation. My facial hair grows in several different directions, and no matter what products I've tried before, I've always been faced with red face, ingrown hairs, and other various problems. Not any more!

You can actually feel the difference the silicone beads provide, as the shave is close, smooth, and comfortable.

Beyond that, the rest of the Billy Jealousy products have been superior to anything I've used in the past. I highly recommend the Hot Towel, which really is like getting that hot towel shave from a barber, along with the Shaved Ice, with it's nice, cool clean feeling afterwards.

Good Shaving Cream 31 Aug 2006

It works pretty well and gives me a close shave. It definitely beats regular shaving cream! However last Christmas I was given some L'Occitane shaving oil, which I used under regular shaving cream and I got a smoother shave than with this product alone.

Great Shaving Cream 1 Dec 2005
By chaos - Published on
Size Name: 236 ml Verified Purchase
Bought this shaving cream four days ago. I was kind of skeptical, and wondered if it really would be better than a can of Aveeno or Gillette shaving cream. Well, it really is good stuff -- it has made shaving much easier on my skin, and I will be using it from now on.

Also, this was about as much as I was willing to pay for shaving cream - I saw some other brands available at high end stores (selling for as much as $65, and I'm not spending that much on shaving cream), and they were basically the same as some "all-natural" products I had tried from the health food store for arount $7.00.

Billy Jealousy is really a great product.
