There’s no way back…

DI Sheldon Brown has never recovered from finding the body of Alice Kenyon brutally murdered, naked and abandoned in a pool. And he’s never stopped pursuing his main suspect, hellraiser and lottery winner Billy Privett either. So when Billy is found dead and, what’s more, viciously dissected, DI Brown’s obsession is rekindled. Who killed the notorious millionaire in such a bloodthirsty way? 5.0 out of 5 stars His best yet 27 Jun 2012
By Walker

I've read all of Neil White's crime novels to date and I have to say this is his best yet. I bought it on the strength of the previous stories involving the reporter Jack Garrett and his detective partner Laura McGanity and expected it to be on the same basis. However we are treated to new protagonists in DI Sheldon Brown and lawyer Charlie Barker in a tightly woven storyline that cleverly brings together seemingly different strands into a satisfying denouement. The setting is very familiar if you've read the previous books - a former industrial town in Lancashire that has seen better days - and I think this adds to the realism in today's Britain. Towns which are a shadow of their former industrial glory seem to be commonplace and you can feel the honesty and reality in the background descriptions. As far as the story was concerned I found it compelling, well-written and I didn't want to put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best 14 Oct 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I've read all of Neil White's books to date and found them all worthy of 5 stars. Unfortunately, I didn't have a Kindle when I read them so I can't comment on the digital version, but everything being equal, the writing style and the story are excellent. I suppose everyone has a few favourite authors from whom they look out for new stories - Neil is certainly near the top of my list. This one is definitely worth more than the current price of 99p.
Notice it's now £1.99 - good for you Neil, sorry readers!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible page turner 1 Oct 2012
By TonyW
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I chose this book on the basis of the recommendations of other readers and I certainly wasn't disappointed. From the first chapter I was unable to put it down - I guess I finished the book inside 5 sessions it was such a cliff hanger. Dealing the law on a professional basis I found the plot credible (which is more than I can say for some books)More of the same please!

2.0 out of 5 stars Beyond boring ....
Never read a Neil White book before, don't think I will again. Found the characters and plot depressing, too long and drawn out - story only "came together" in last quarter... Read more
