Book Description

11 Feb 2009
Behind the Hijab, pulsating and daring in its theme, is an anthology of informative and thought-provoking articles and poems from Muslim and Non Muslim women. Through their writing, these women tackle a contentious issue that has rocked society in modern times; the veil or Hijab. Both established and emerging women writers contribute their views of the veil, which are brought alive through prose, poetry and fiction. The anthology has been collated by Rabina Khan as part of Monsoon Press's Hidden Voices Programme.

I bought this expecting some interesting and personal stories about hijab - and was rather disappointed. Most of the stories offered little insight, and were unoriginal. One or two stories were well worth reading, but on the whole I would only recommend this book for someone who knows nothing about hijab or people who wear headscarves.
