I was able to install the BBC iPlayer app from the Google Play Store without any issues. The only thing to bear in mind is that all the app provides is a shortcut to the iPlayer website in whichever browser you have set by default (the BBC have been rather lazy when it comes to the Android version of their app). Your browser must therefore be Flash enabled (hence you cannot use Chrome).
You are brilliant! Tried to get into iPlayer (never been a problem before) but stated must be Flash-enabled (which I thought it was), kept going into Chrome as opposed to browser, remembered I'd seen something on here about iPlayer, and there-and-behold was your last comment. And success. Many thanks. As a total novice, I look at these discussions all the time to learn more (most are too complicated - I've given up trying to update) but the discussions relating to this Momo8 Bird tablet must be one of the best - thanks again to all.
Ideally I'd like to be able to side-load BBC iplayer programs to my device for watching later on the train; this requires a tablet that will support Media Digital Rights Management (DRM) files, so that you don't need to be near a wifi hotspot to download the rights when you want to play your saved download? Otherwise the iplayer is nowhere nearly as useful, as you need to be able to get online in order to acquire the license to view any downloaded programs.
Mrs J.P. Thomas, I'm a complete novice and I'm reading these messages trying to learn for when I purchase mine. You mention that the tablet should support Media Digital Rights Management (DRM) files....does the Momo 8 support this ?? Vera
No idea, sorry; I am only 1 step away from a novice. I currently have a Sony Walkman E, but would love to have a tablet which could do the same as my Walkman, and play apps. I've just been doing some googling, and found the name of the video file type that needs to be in the list in order to be able to sideload, so that the Media Rights are downloaded with the file.
There is a list of devices on the BBC site, but I'm not sure how up to date it is kept given the pace of technology. http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/where_to_get_iplayer/portable_media/
