Product Description

BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge Volume 6 is the annual round-up of the cream of 2011’s Live Lounge sessions. Artists such as Jessie J, Birdy and Ed Sheeran make their debut appearance, alongside superstars such as Take That and Adele.
The first Live Lounge sessions started 10 years ago on Jo Whiley’s show, and are now under the watchful eye of Fearne Cotton, attracting the best acts in the world. The bands and artists perform their own track, and a cover version. The tracks are live and stripped down, showing the true quality of the musicianship and craft of the song.

It is not the best Live Lounge CD so far, but it is a very good one. I especially liked Ellie Goulding's cover and Ed sheeran's A Team. There was a slight dissapointment that I found a lot of the artists did their own tracks, but also in a very similair way to how they are originally, but I still love this CD, they are just becoming less unique songs.

The Live Lounge series continues to deliver, and vol. 6 is no exception. Feels like it's been a good year for female artists (Adele, Jessie J, Birdy, Katy B) and they are all present here, doing their own tracks or covers. Am also enjoying Robyn's version of 'Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall', her Coldplay cover. She really makes it sound fresh.

This is well worth checking out if you like stripped back acoustic versions and unique cover versions.

This is the third BBC Radio Live Lounge album that I've bought so far, and like the other two - I can only give it a positive review.

I really am enjoying the Live Lounge albums, as it's great to hear unique versions of the year's (in this case 2011) biggest songs. 'Volume 6' might possibly be my favourite, there is so much excellent material to be heard.

The always brilliant Miles Kane covered Emili Sandre's 'Heaven' with very good results (he really needs to release a covers album one day), The Vaccines have actually finally made me warm to 'Last Friday Night', I also much preferred Friendly Fires' 'The Edge Of Glory' to Lady GaGa's, and Ed Sheeran's opening acoustic version of his hit 'The A Team' is another highlight. Adele, Vampire Weekend (singing Cheryl Coles' 'Fight For This Love!!), Noah and The Whale and The Kooks, there are so many artists and bands that I like on this one, and more good than bad.

Kicking off with Ed Sheeran - The A Team isn't a great start, a slow-ish fairly boring song (that is, far too overplayed) although you can't fault his performance, not even a voice shake so that's a plus! Next comes one of the only good songs on this album = Friendly Fires - The Edge Of Glory which is done very well as a cover, I actually prefer it to the original! It's dance-y and vocals are good, a great contribution from Friendly Fires. It's well worth a listen if you get the chance, and if I could buy it as a single I would! Example's cover of Don't Sit Down `Cause I've Moved Your Chair (Arctic Monkeys) is very poor, and I had to turn it off it was just so dull and basically badly done, and I love Example usually! A disappointment to kickstart the rest of the rubbish songs on this album... Miles Kane ruins Heaven (Emilie Sande) which is unfortunate as I like the original, the same with Leona Lewis' Let The Sun Shine, she slows it completely and while this could work, it just doesn't. The Vaccine's Last Friday Night is a very good cover I must say, changed up completely but still sounding awesome, same for Vampire Weekend's cover of Cheryl Cole which I love! Hard-Fi also does a good job of covering Snoop Dogg & David Guetta's Sweat - keeping it punchy but adding their own rock-y spin.

Ellie Goulding does Only Girl in the World - Rihanna and while, yes, it's lovely, it's also a tad boring and very predictably done (as expected of Goulding really) but if you like her then you'll love this. The Kooks cover Pumped Up Kicks nicely - sounding very like the original, though which defeats the point of Live Lounge a little. The only other 2 worth mentioning are Everything Everything - What's My Name? which is fabulous!

I don't know if it is me getting older, but these live lounge compilations seeming to becoming duller. There is too many tracks that are flat and a bit soulless. They did save a lot of arguments on a family road trip to Italy between parents and teenagers. The earlier ones are much better, but this was a present from the kids to my wife, based on that happy road trip to Lake Garda, when there was laughter and a body count of zero. The Acoustic Anonymous series are better for adults.

I bought this as a present for my Dad as he is not a big fan of pop music but prefers stripped back tracks. I haven't really ever listened to a full live lounge album but I had a listen to this one and I must say I was impressed. The stripped backed versions of the tracks were phenomenal, as a lot of music is lost through the overuse of instruments. I was also very pleased to see that bands such as the Vaccines, two door cinema club and Vampire Weekend were also on the album.

I bought this for my husband for christmas as he likes to listern to the show, but put it on my ipod first it is very good and I have enjoyed listening to it probably more the second time than the first, there are a couple of tracks that I always fast forward on each cd, but doesnt very one on every cd they purchase.

I really do like the series of NBC live lounge! Quite often you find another artist covers a current chart single and it's even better than the original and this has happened a few times on this version.
