5.0 out of 5 stars Breakthrough! 14 Jun 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
Here we go; my take on the latest Balance release.

This album is a breakthrough of sorts. It has broken out of the malaise that has aflicted dance music over the last 5 years or so. It is groundbreaking, dynamic and very enjoyable. The reason why I think it is a breakthrough is because the music is a quantum step beyond what has been done before. Its new, and furthermore it is self-assured of its own sound.

New sounds crop up from time to time, like Joris Voorn Balance CD or Agoria's efforts. But somehow this CD seems to draw on the experience and sounds of the past and take them all to the next level. For example there are similarities to Tangerine Dream, Jean Micheal Jarre and Mike Oldfield in the sound of this CD. There are layers of synths working together to create symphonies of sound.

The style of this CD is electro-synth with a touch of psychedelia. The first CD is a dynamic cacophony of sound which hurls along and delivers a powerful punch. CD 2 is more subdued and slower but is still very good quality dance music. The style remains the same in both CD's, its just that CD 1 is the showstopper while CD 2 is the more exploratory journey.

The mixing is flawless on both CD's. Smooth and inventive. The track selection is exceptional too. The songs display harmonious similarities to each other while building on the character of the whole album. The tracks work very well together and the album has got that all important quality of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts.

All in all an excellent CD which I believe will be seminal to the future of dance music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Henry who???? 22 Jun 2011
Being a Balance follower for some years now I was a bit nervous of investing my money in this album after the more recent average releases. Henry who?, I thought. So, I listed to transitions radio mix, to see what he was about. Pleasantly surprised but not blown over, I decided to buy the album anyway. And what an album it is! How can I describe it without waffling on using big words and sounding important.... its, BRILLIANT! This album is a true masterpiece of music. Constantly changing and evolving throughout the two discs providing a breakbeat, progressive and house mix with production that most artists would die for. This isnt just a mix, its a full production, with sounds and beats that you will discover with every listen. There is just so much going on, but it never seems over crowded on your ears. This isnt a banging mix but you will find yourself turning up the volume, nodding your head, tapping your fingers and driving round the block a few times to hear the next track. For those that enjoy the likes of Sasha, Nick Warren and Apparat to name but a few you will be very, very pleased with your 8.99 purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars Large Hadron Collider of music particles 27 Jun 2011

Few words could do this release justice. It is - phenomenal. A couple of minutes in and you'll know that this 2cd mix has been made with genuine heart and love of music, both past and present. It has been put together by someone who understands how powerful music can be in capturing and expressing intangible emotions and timeless qualities, binding the past, the present and the future together into a fleeting moment. The mix offers wonderings into these unique moments as few other releases do.

It's clear that Henry Saiz understands the potential of a mix cd as the format created for, but going far beyond, the dancefloor experience. The mixes take you on a sonic journey inspired by past wonderings through the shortwave spectrum on old analogue radio sets, nights spent browsing through their miracle world of white noise, exotic languages, mysterious tunes and echoey sounds. These memories are brought to life with present technology, respecting the continuity that underlies all music across genres. You'll find yourself transfixed and exhillarated with each second, wondering where the mix takes you next.

There are moments to dream to, moments to dance to and moments to zone out to and stare out of the window (ideally, while travelling long distances). Naming highlights in the tracklist or track IDs for reference would be difficult, even pointless, as it would go against the idea behind both sets - to offer a unified listening experience. This is a quality this release shares with equally mighty Balance 014 by Joris Voorn.

Very few mix cds go close to this one. Buy it while it's out there. It is the Large Hadron Collider of music particles that yields amazing finds right now.

2.0 out of 5 stars over rated 23 May 2012
having read all the 5 star reviews on this one i thought i was onto a winner. how wrong can you be. dissapointing to say the least.
have listed to it quite a few times now and just dont get the reviews its been given. the mix is formulaic and predictable and quite stop start at times. although there are some good tracks as a whole it just doesnt flow in my opinion. its ok just nothing special.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh, exciting mix CD 23 Sep 2011
By Ed

This is the first mix CD I've bought for a long while, based on the strength of the Amazon reviews and checking out some of the songs on Youtube. I wasn't disappointed.

The trouble with most mix CDs is that there are always - even amongst the most famous DJs - some poor or filler tracks, but here there are none, and Henry Saiz pulls off that tricky challenge of making a coherent mix that flows seamlessly but where the individual tracks still shine through. All in all the CD has a very fresh, energetic and modern feel and is beautifully melodic. The best of a very good bunch of tracks include Spada's 'Onice', the Cora Novoa and Spaceman track which is outstanding, Saiz's own 'Eterno Retorno', Eelke Kleijn 'Lone Ranger' and at the end of CD 2, Simon Garcia 'If this world were dub' and the lovely closing track 'Nodo 6' by Sistema.

I had only heard a few of the tracks Saiz had produced and have been surprised at how good this CD is. I would say it's even better than Joris Voorn's technically incredible, very good but occasionally disjointed Balance 14 and one of the very best mix CDs I own. Some of those favourites include Nick Warren's Global Underground 24, 28 and 30 but his recent efforts for Global Underground and Balance sound flat compared to what Saiz has produced here.

Well done Henry Saiz!
