Product Description

Amazon.co.uk

The testing waters of any show's first year inevitably generate a few ripples as it finds its feet and sees what it can get away with. Babylon 5 just kept throwing larger and larger rocks into the waters to culminate on choppy high seas with this season finale. With every major character in jeopardy of one form or another, Christopher Franke had to build upon the sound developed so far to deliver his biggest dramatic punches. The "I Don't Like This" segment of cue three (they're all edited into suites), is a fine example of how he builds suspense with mock guitar keeping beat for skittering synths. "Time" is even better. It had already become apparent that the alien race to watch were the Minbari, and with the most mysterious turn of events for Delenn ("She Is Changing") their associative gentle pseudo-harp is at its most effective. This episodic disc also has an ambient mood song ("Believe Me"), and a brief snatch of futuristic pop. --Paul Tonks

4.0 out of 5 stars Short in duration, but ominously powerful 24 Oct 2002
By Earl Green - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
"Chrysalis," the final episode of the first season of Babylon 5, was the first indication of what the show would become in terms of its suspenseful plotting, and composer Christopher Franke rolled out some of his best tunes of that first year to accompany the episode's rising jeopardy. "Chrysalis" features not only some dark and menacing cues, but an actual song with vocals ("Believe Me Now," heard in the background of a bar scene in which Garibaldi questions a suspect) and a brief excerpt borrowed from Franke's solo CD "Klemania" (heard at a New Year party scene). The one catch is that the CD weighs in at just a little over 20 minutes - but what music is there leaves a lasting impression.
