Product Description

In 1974, B.B. King brought the blues back to Africa. Invited to take part in the three-day music festival which featured the legendary boxing match between George Foreman and Muhammad Ali, King played before a crowd of over 80,000 Africans and delivered a performance considered by many to be one of the greatest of his phenomenal career. B.B. King filled the night with his raw power, searing energy and heart stopping emotion. This inspiring classic concert, shot by Academy-Award winner Leon Gast (When We Were Kings), even has Ali sitting in the audience. Now this classic footage is available on DVD and an unforgettable night of music lives again. B.B. King's widespread popularity and critical acclaim have cemented his reputation as one of the most respected and successful blues musicians. With a career spanning fifty years, he has amassed an impressive list of hits including ''You Know I Love You'', ''Woke Up This Morning'', ''Whole Lotta Love'', ''Every Day I Have the Blues'', ''Sneakin' Around'', ''Sweet Little Angel'', ''On My Word of Honor'' and #1 hits ''Three O Clock Blues'', ''You Upset Me Baby'' and ''Please Love Me''. Over the years he has teamed up with other famous artists, notably U2, Eric Clapton and New Jersey rock band Phish.

Absolutely essential for you, dear discerning viewer.

Performance: Five Stars! 49 year-old BB in his prime.
Sound and Picture quality:- Five Stars! (especially bearing in mind the age of the material)

Direction (by Leon Gast):- Five Stars! This film is unusually well made. The camera work, angles and close-ups - really quite outstanding -you get a wonderful sense of the space on the stage with Mr King -and the tremendous atmosphere of this historic event.

I recommend this film very much -it is a unique document of this fine artist at his best.

Get ready to close your eyes, sway your head & tap your foot 26 Aug 2000
By Maurice Z. Crosby Jr. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
BB in Africa is an outstanding concert! Although it was recorded in the 70's, the sound quality is great. Most true Blues fans grew up listening to less than perfect Mono recordings of the blues. Well, here is great sound and video of one of the greatest!

I have seen BB twice in my life and will surely go again if the chance arises. But now, I can pop in the DVD and see him whenever I want.

The stage is packed with band members. Backed by a full horn and rhythm section, BB and Lucille play their unmistakable style blues. This is a must for Blues fans. Don't miss this classic performance on DVD. Crank up the volume and get ready to close your eyes, sway your head and tap your foot.

Eargasmic and electric 3 Aug 1999
By Mike Curtis (MC763@worldnet.att.net) - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
Long before DVD, BB King has put on performances like this around the world! If you have never seen him in concert, this is your chance. This concert is eargasmic and full of electricity. DVD format allows you to experience this legend at his best in the privacy of your own home. Invite friends; put it on the BIG screen TV! But don't miss out on this performance. This is one you will enjoy over and over again.

A BLUES FAN MUST HAVE! 14 July 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
I WAS NOT A BIG BB. KING FAN UNTIL THIS DVD VIDEO. THE COMBINATION OF GOOD VIDEO AND CLEAN SOUND MAKE IT WORTH YOUR MONEY. IF YOU HAVE DOLBY DIGITAL YOUR EARS ARE SITTIN IN THE CAT BIRDS SEAT. HE CAN SING AND PLAY THAT GUITAR. MY FAVORITE IS "THE THRILL IS GONE." TURN IT UP AND ENJ0Y. WELL WORTH YOUR MONEY.
