Pocket-sized and in full colour, this guide describes 12 car tours covering the entire range in France Spain and Andorra; all highlight places where you can stop for a walk or just a stroll to a lovely picnic setting. There are accompanying fold-out touring maps. There are well over 400 kilometres (250 miles) of walks described in this guide, the equivalent of a coast-to-coast traverse one of the 'classics' for all serious walkers. But you don't have to be an expert walker for any of these hikes. None of them requires special skills (under summer conditions) and, if you are not very fit, simply turn back when you feel like it (there are short walk suggestions with most of the itineraries). Experienced and fit walkers will nevertheless find much to enjoy, for the authors have included some of the wildest scenery in the Pyrenees, walked pilgrim routes and World War 2 escape routes, climbed to summits (like Canigou), enjoyed the habitat of marmots, vultures and lizards (the Pyrenean chamois), and not neglected the great and the famous (like the Breche de Roland). Paul Jenner and Christine Smith have lived in the Pyrenees for many years. They have also written the "Rough Guide to the Pyrenees" (1st edition) and the "Berlitz Explorer" guide to the Pyrenees. We went to the Azores for a 3 week organised walking holiday last may. I bought this book before I went to supplement the information that our walks company had given us. I found this guide fantastic for supplementing our holiday walk details. I used the car tours and also used the walks as its maps and details were far better than the items my tour company had given me. We went to 4 islands and this guide added to my knowledge of each island. We did walks from the book on each island. I usually use OS maps in this country and I found these maps easy to follow and most of all reliable. The walk times were accurate and the descriptions very clear. I now want to go back and do the islands I did not visit Santa maria,Graciosa and Flores. I would recomend anyone who wants to walk and sight see in the azores that they use this. If I had found this earlier I would have just booked my own flights and hotel and used this guide. There is also good information on bus and taxi services. The information on climate, geology and goegraphy also enhance your understanding of the Azores.

We went to Azores for two weeks and did 6 hikes/walks from the book. The description is very clear and accurate, and the trails were realy nice. It was nice that these trails differed from the mainstream local ones offered by tourist offices. I will look for the similar guided for other places from this publisher, hoping that also those ones will be as good as this one for Azores.

I bought this book before the map but as they compliment each other I would suggest buying both at the same time. Although not actually a guide book it covers the islands in detail and the tours and walks are clearly explained.
