This guide is OK but the maps are infuriating.Too many of them have no scale and the small size of the towns makes it difficult to judge distances on the ground. The walks maps were very hard to relate to an actual map of the Azores. AS far as I know there are no other up to date guides though I believe there is a walking guide.

An excellent guide to all 9 Islands of the Azores and we gained a lot of useful information about the Islands that was not in other books.
One mistake in the book was the Azorian Bullfinch picture shown was in fact an Azorian Chaffinch, otherwise excellent.

It was the only guide I found for our trip to the Azores and I found it useful. It went into enough depth to help you get the best out of your holiday, but was not tedious and drawn out. As far as holiday guides go, I think it was just right

Even though this book gives some nice background information, it lacks the practical structure you usually find in similar guides. Very much aimed at bird and plant lovers, it totally omitted all useful information on sports and other activities and seems to be aimed at only a selective age group. Also, beaches were not described as much as I'd liked and if you are an independent traveller planning on going with the flow a little, this book won't be much of a resource to you.

The content is, as you'd expect, the usual high quality of Bradt. Excellent. But the Kindle format is infuriating. Kindle does not lend itself well to books with embedded boxes of text. Whilst the information is within, it's not user friendly to me. I am going to buy myself the hardback version.

Very informative guide on the island. Walking section could use an update as some new options have opened up. Also, maps need urgent update as few new roads have been added and this may lead to some confusion. Only used guide for Flores island.
