Product Description

Product Description

Here is the newest edition of a book - a truly beautiful and immensely colourful book - that has taken the tropical fish world by storm by satisfying the long-existing need for a comprehensive identification guide to aquarium fishes. The book shows in full colour not only the popular aquarium fishes but also the oddballs, not just the warmwater species but the coldwater species as well, and not just the foreign species but the domestic species, too. In addition, valuable information dealing with maintenance in captivity is included. In short, this book has it all, and it's arranged in the format that will provide maximum utility to readers: the fishes are grouped family by family according to the geographical region from which they come. The photos themselves are so up-to-date that a number of the fishes have yet to be described in scientific literature. This new edition contains many of the photos that so many of you are used to, only with revised taxonomy (where appropriate). All of this beautiful photo-text package is concerned with identification and maintenance, the type of down-to-earth information that is of benefit to every tropical fish hobbyist, beginners and experienced alike.

I read the reviews before I bought this as a present and it came today.

It's great for fish identification, but I assumed that there would be text on each page with the fish pictures - in reality it is all pictures, which none of the reviews or summary said! However, the pictures do have a key to give information on the fish. I wouldn't suggest this for the beginner, as hopefully the shop you purchase your fish from should know which fish they are!

I have personally used this book for identification purposes for the last eight years. It is one of the most accurate books of it's kind available, from the humble Guppy to the more exotic, they are all here. Very easy to use index system,Latin and common names are listed to make the task of identification a lot easier. There are also sections on plants, breeding and diseases, all explained in a way that every one can understand. This book should be on every aquarist's book shelf.

a well written and well illustrated guide, ideal for fish identification. now in its ninth eddition it has not essentially changed. it has always been the book the serious fish keeper has used.
