Product Description

In a thrilling, all-new series, HISTORY™ brings you the day-to-day lives of dedicated Oregon loggers in intimate and thrilling detail. Modelled after the blockbusting Ice Road Truckers show, this new series takes you deep into the lives of the men who lay it all on the line for their jobs. Logging in the Pacific Northwest is the most hazardous job in America, twenty-six times riskier than the average U.S. job. Filmed on location, Ax Men breaks new ground in getting close to the action. You'll be ducking your head as logs swing by and wincing as entire trees crash onto the cameras! Through the experiences of the veteran bosses and their crews, you'll know the ceaseless exhaustion, thrilling triumph and relief of living another day that can only be felt after a stretch "pulling wood" out of the hills. You'll learn the innumerable risks and great rewards awaiting the Ax Men.

4.0 out of 5 stars Axe Men in Oregon 17 Aug 2009
Highly entertaining and watchable. I find the insights into the technical way in which timber is taken from the hills to the mill very interesting, but it is some of the characters they follow through the series that makes it truly watchable. They follow 4 crews, and the introduction to each crew each time they change location gets a little wearing.
Without a doubt it is a tough and dangerous job, but you get insights into how the job should be done properly. Most of the time the crews seem to be up against equipment reliability, rough terrain, the weather and time. Little seems to be given to safety.
Even my wife enjoys watching it.
Looking forward to series 2.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tiimbeeeeeerrrrr........ 30 Dec 2009
By Foxylock TOP 1000 REVIEWER
The most dangerous job in America, logging in the Pacific Northwest is 26 times more hazardous than the average U.S.job. The scale of the Oregon wilderness is mind boggling with loggers working in a one million acre forest, harvesting wood for the construction industry. This series follows four crews each with different work ethics, methods and deadlines but all with the same goal, to pull as much wood from the hills before the mill stops taking timber.

To see the danger faced by these men daily is truly awe inspiring, each crew is a mixture of old hands and greenhorns and the clash of personalities is an intriguing facet of this programme. Battling adverse weather conditions, equipment failure and their bosses unrealistic expectations with weary minds and bodies makes for compelling viewing. And all this before the recession adds more pressure to the industry, we get an insight into how far guys are willing to go to keep hold of their business in a failing economy.

Then the region is hit by the worst storm on record cutting a swathe of destruction through the logging towns of Oregon. Adversity just became more adverse. From the guys who filmed Ice Road Truckers - Series 1 - Complete [DVD] [2007] this series will have you glued to your seat with a renewed appreciation for the cushy office job !!
