4.0 out of 5 stars The Ax Book, 27 Aug 2003
This is an excellent book about all facets of using a felling axe, everyhting you need to know and then some more. It is an american book published in the seventies and this colours some of the opinions, but the core techniques and views are solid. For example the author advice to use an axe with gloves on is obviously essential in a Maine winter, but would be considered dangerous in a mild and wet England. The history is obviously biased towards north america and like wise many of the patterns of axe and manufacturers are similarly skewed. If you have never used an axe, this book is an essential. If you have been using one for years and fell oaks without breaking into a sweat, there is still a lot here for you.
