Book Description

10 Oct 2013 Awkward Moments Childrens Bible

How well do you know the Good Book?
What began as a private online gag among interfaith friends quickly grew into a book to meet the demands of adoring fans! Combining actual Bible verses with more than 30 whimsical original illustrations, Awkward Moments uses humor to encourage people from all walks of faith to think, perhaps for the first time, about how the Bible continues to shape our culture.

BEWARE - NOT FOR KIDS! This is definitely not your average children's Bible! If you thought the bestseller "Go The F**k To Sleep" was inappropriate for story-time with kids, you haven't seen anything yet! Leave it to the Bible! Foreskins Fetishes? Unicorn Murders? Boiled Babies? Messiah, MIA? Selling Daughters? Cannibalism Club? Genetic Breakthroughs? Demonic Bacon? Gagged Women? Jihad Jesus? You bet! And much more!

From the opening foreword by acclaimed author David G. McAfee, to the challenging commentaries and interactive games at the end, Awkward Moments Children's Bible is much more than an irreverent book for your coffee table! Readers of all faiths will find themselves laughing out loud while being encouraged to think about the Bible in a new way.

Let’s be honest - there are some things in the Good Book that are just... awkward! There are verses we'd like to forget or that have been changed throughout the centuries. There are many verses you’ve never heard before in church, let alone seen in your average children’s Bible! Not to mention the verses that have been added over the centuries!

Most people were raised in the faith chosen by their family. Young children learn a few Bible stories taken out of context and accept them without question. (On what basis could they possibly question their parents or church leaders?) After decades of repetition and tradition, it's understandable that we might put our beliefs on auto-pilot and just nod as a pastor repeats the verses and ideas that are already familiar and comfortable to us. It's no wonder that recent studies show an incredible lack of Biblical knowledge among Christians - 55% unable to even name the four Gospels of the New Testament - the very foundation of Christianity!

The Goal? Awkward Moments encourages readers to really understand what is in their Bibles and think for themselves about the context of Biblical teaching. The 32 color illustrations and included commentaries will likely challenge some readers to reflect on how religion continues to shape the lives and culture of future generations. If readers happen to laugh out loud and enjoy the interactive puzzles and games in the mean time - it’s just an added bonus!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 26 Dec 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The Awkward moments bible offers a platform to discuss aspects of the bible that people might find awkward or inconvenient to talk about, or in many case passages they simply haven't heard before. Whilst some religious folk might be 'offended' by the pictures or disagree with the commentary, to focus on this is too miss the point, which in my opinion is to increase people's knowledge of the bible. That people know more about texts such as the bible should be a positive thing for the religious and non-religious alike, if we are to have an informed and reasoned discussion on the subject. And of course this comes in an entertaining and original format, for which the authors should be congratulated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awkward? I don't think so. 11 Feb 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I gave this to the kids as a Santamas present at Santamas, as it is a good summary in cartoon form of some of the printable nastiness in this most revered of ghastly books. Their still having nightmares and fits of laughter in equal measures. Can't wait for the next 300 volumes to get released....

To the Christian reviewer who gave this 1 star I say, given your reasoning that this is selective, please go and give all the children's bibles 1 star as well, for the same reason. In fact, I've edited your review for you (please read as if somebody is screeching the words in order to get the desired effect):

Speak about taking things out of context!!! Don't be FOOLED, this is not an interesting book for any atheist grand/parent wishing to share science, reason and reality with their grand/children!!!! It is a book written by Christians with the intention of POISONING the young mind of anyone/child who might not believe in the Judeo-Christian GOD and HIS word, the Bible. It is the usual misrepresentation and unfair tactics that Christians inevitably have to adopt in the absence of any reasonable scientific and cognitive input. It is a shining example of just how LOW Christians are willing to go to spread their Jewish/Christian PROPAGANDA!!!!!!! If you are a Christian in your thinking then this is probably right down your street. If you prefer a fair and balanced approach to questioning something, avoid this CHILDISH effort - it's a very CHEAP SHOT and a waste of time!!!!! Atheists should avoid it like the PLAGUE, unless of course you would like to remind yourself of just how PATHETIC and LOW these extremely DELUDED people can go!!!! They need common sense and basic GCSE science read to them like no other!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars needs to be read by everyone 31 Oct 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This book will raise more questions than it answers and thats a good thing. Well phrased and illustrated in just the right style. A fun book to read. We all know the vanilla version of bible storys but this book may introduce some to what is actually written and inspire them to find out more for themselves.

quick bite quotations from just a small selection of the bits of bible the religious wish did not exist and skip hurriedly over. The juxtaposition of illustrations apparently designed for children whilst depicting truly horrific scenarios underlines the cognitive dissonance the religious of today must experience when purporting to follow the word of *god* from 2000 years ago. If every religious zealot read this I would hope there would be a lot less biblical nonsense in the world. This book is extremely handy for doorstep discussion with Jehovahs witnesses - just ask them to read and explain the relevant section in their own book rather than reading the bits they would prefer to quote. Hopefully the authors will follow with a similar examination of the Koran which is another overstated tome with influence far exceeding its content.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written and thought provoking! 3 Dec 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book was posted mostly on Facebook before it was given a paper form!
It is intelligently written with a comic twist! If you feel it is failing the bible you must have your bible at hand to see its not taking the Big book out of context! As an adult I would show it to my children and get them to understand the history and the teachings that happening in the Christian world! This book also has explanations in the back for further personal study or with a group of friends!

This book is opening up peoples eyes to chapters long neglected. The theist who is the author of this book must love his bible. And I can see he is creating question that need intelligent conversation!

You must read this book with an open heart and a questioning mind to get the best out of it!

I was asked to change my name before I submit my copy but I will not as I stand by my words and if you dont like it talk to me!
