These Detroit kids almost blew my ears off last night when I saw them in a tiny pub here in North East England - as the description on their tour poster rightly suggests, they are arguably the heirs to the Stooges throne!

Singer/guitarist Derek manages to lure some fantastically sharp and growly riffs and noises out of his (home made?) amp, whilst the rhythm section of Allison and Michael keep a solid groove going throughout - they are literally only missing an Iggy to dance around the stage!

The stand out track is 'Free Man' which seems to be earmarked as a potential single release (?) - this song could quite easily have snuggled in alongside the other classics on that debut Stooges album, close your eyes and you're transported to Ann Arbor circa 1969!!!

This CD is well worth a buy, and if you get the chance to catch their live show, definitely take it!

Never judge a book (or a cd?) by it's cover? No way! I found this album in a charity shop, I'd never heard of Awesome Color but the artwork suggested psychedelic goodness within, plus on inspection I noticed Thurston Moore was the producer on this album, that was enough for me to stump up the 1.50 (bargain!!!) they wanted for it. When I popped the CD in my system I was blown away by the seriously heavy garage rock, that was indeed tinged by psychedelic goodness. I've had this pretty much on loop for the last week, I've had to order their follow-up album, so I can start weaning myself off this album and listen to something else. I know I will return to this album many times in the future. This is awesome (Color), try it, you might like it!

Got to agree, this is yet another case of a really great release not getting anything like the plaudits it deserves.

I will guarantee that this will be the best album you've heard for a very long time.
The albums full of great tracks with bags of originality.

Great Debut. 12 Jun 2007

I saw this trio opening up for Dinosaur Jr in Chicago June 1st of 2007. Their sound blew me away...Unbelievable guitar riffs and the drummer was insanely great. Bought the CD after the set and it does not dissappoint. Cannot wait for the follow up. This CD is good but check them out live if you can.

yes, they sound much like The Stooges. in my opinion, though, they're one of the few bands that's ever managed to really pull it off convincingly. it doesn't sound forced or contrived. the guitar work is especially ripping. ol' Thurston picked a winner with this one.

Decent 29 Dec 2006

Yes, as one reviewer put it on this page, this album is reminiscent of the Stooges. No matter, the album is very much listenable. Somehow, I got a feeling that this debut album is a prelude to something stronger and more substantial.
