I saw the author on ITV's "This Morning" and was very impressed with him. He certainly talked the talk. I was particularly interested in his comments about moisturisers for the face. He more or less said that any moisturiser costing more than seven quid was a waste of money, and there were several "cheaper" brands that he could recommend instead. He said that he wouldn't go into product names on TV, because all the info was in the book. Not wishing to waste my money on "rip-off" moisturisers, I thought I'd invest in a copy of his book. How disappointed I was!He doesn't recommend ANY facial moisturisers at all! He just lists a load of chemical ingredients to look out for on the labels. He does say Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion is fabulous(for the body), but doesn't say whether it is suitable for the face! The label on this product doesn't mention whether it is either.So, I feel let down because I was misled into buying this book. On the whole, it covers things that most well read/well informed people will have already learned from experience or from books,mags and TV etc. Overall a bit expensive for what it is.

I also bought this book after seeing the author on TV but I completely disagree with the reader who says he doesn't recommend products. Page 134 has a long list of tried and tested products where he names brands which are really good for face and also for body too - so he does spill all those trade secrets! I found it a really good buy and really helpful - and it's probably saved me money I would otherwise have spent on expensive moisturisers and creams.

In an area of interest already overloaded with hype, jargon and misinformation it was a relief to find a book with clear and useful content. Dr. Lowe offers sensible advice and workable method without talking down to the reader - and now I feel it's far better to understand how the skin works, what it's mechanisms are, and then make informed choices and decisions based on that information. I'd rather know the truth about my skin than follow a list of the latest fashionable product names blindly. I would recommend this book to family and friends, and as a fair-skinned person, particularly because of the medical advice dealing with skin cancers.
