Product Description

In late 1943 the U.S. attack transport PA-22 Belinda set sail for training manoeuvres at Pearl Harbour with a ragtag troop of sailors and officers. With the war still raging, Captain J.S. Hawks (Jeff Chandler) and Lieutenant Dave MacDougall (George Nader) must turn a motley crew of unseasoned seamen into a shipshape fighting force. When a squad of Japanese kamikazes attack their vessel, every man must prove his worth if they are to survive and save the Belinda from a watery grave. An action-packed classic World War Two film from the vaults of Universal Pictures.

Worth Watching 24 July 2011
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Films about attack transport vessels in the Pacific are few and far between, so this is a rare opportunity to learn more about such operations. Add to that plenty of action, dashes of humour and strong characters and you have a film definitely worth watching. Like other reviewers here, I have had my experiences with poor quality Pegasus DVDs, but apart from coloured stripes fluttering across the screen a couple of times, this one was OK.

Great movie, showing the strain under which operations took place, and especially what the sailors and soldiers in the Pacific War had to endure!

Away All Boats 11 Dec 2011
By Tomlan
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Saw this film at our local cinema Christmas Eve 1956. Not traditional festive entertaimnent to be sure, but the it struck me as being far more expansive, and expensive than normal Universal releases of the time. Nice to revisit it on this new DVD. Jeff Chandler gives a credible performance, as does the rest of the cast, with a touch of comedy provided by a dedicated "Waste Disposal" rating.

The trailer alone is worth the price of the disc. They really did make you want to see the film back then.
