Book Description

30 Sep 2011
Kyra Sutton likes to think of herself as an ordinary fourteen year old girl. Until she makes an extraordinary discovery... She's a Dream Rider, and she's not the only one. This new found ability plunges Kyra and her friends into adventures to realms beyond their wildest dreams. Along the way they uncover deep truths about themselves and the world around them, and gradually awaken to their true purpose in life. But with the thrills and excitement come the deep shadows of fear, pain and grief. Can the Dream Riders master their supernatural gifts in time to prevent the tragedy that's been foreseen? Nothing will ever be ordinary again. Awakening of the Dream Riders is a metaphysical fantasy novel for young adults, but it's also far more than that. This book has hidden treasures that will stay with the reader forever, enriching their lives and opening their minds. Valuable truths are cleverly woven through the story; in many ways this is more a work of soul-truth than fiction. It promotes living compassionately - looking beyond our initial patterns of reaction, and understanding that we're all intrinsically linked, that every person and event in our lives is more significant than we could ever imagine, and that we all have important and unique gifts to share with the world. Through themes of bullying, grief, friendship, and love, we follow the characters on a journey of awakening to their true magnificence.

Review

From the very first page and with my introduction to Kyra I was taken in fully. I was pulled to know more as the first page teased with the sense of excitement and I was not aware of the voyage I was about to embark upon as this wonderful child found the birthing of a gift that she had no idea was possible. I was reminded of the "Wrinkle in Time" series by Madelene L'Engle, a series of books I read in my middle school years. I have long been a fan of those things mystical and magical and was compelled. I was pulled in at the soul level for this work touches the soul with truth mingled into the fiction. On the journey with Kyra, Liam, Noah, Crystal, Ray, and Marco I felt the full range of all of my emotions and the loss, the love, the life renewed in confirmation that each of these soul's shared. I marvelled at the sync in which this book progressed and truly felt it more of a work of soul truth than fiction. This work touches at the soul level in a confirming way for those of us who have been made aware in this age...it will teach a great deal and resonate in the young soul's soon to be awakened! Thank you for blessing my soul...there are great truths in this story, and many reminders that the Angels revealed to me as confirmation to "gut feelings" I had yet to embrace. Your light is evident in this work. Please, please know that with all sincerity I have enjoyed this book and it is one that I will re-read in times to come and will share with my 13 year old daughter and friends. --Laurie D Hopkins

On a quiet street in a picturesque English seaside town, Kyra Sutton makes an extraordinary discovery that at first promises thrills and excitement, but will ultimately test the schoolgirl and her friends to the extreme. Her startling discovery will change the course of their lives ... forever. Can they master their newfound supernatural gifts in time to prevent an already foreseen tragedy? I have to confess two things at the start of this review. Actually, no, make that three things. Number One is that Lynda Mangoro is an online writing friend of mine; Number Two is that on principle I dislike Young Persons Literature, having thankfully grown out of being a Young Person myself many aeons ago; Number Three is that, dang and blast my principles, but I thought this book was great. We re straight into the action from the first page, with fourteen-year-old Kyra discovering her strange new gift of out-of-body flying. Or dream riding as it s called here. It s all new to her, which cleverly makes it all new to us too, thus allowing both protagonist and reader to find out what is happening, and to discover the magic of it, together. Kyra therefore is our guide into a strange, and very exciting, new world. Plus she s a character you can t help but warm to, being intelligent, clear-sighted and kind: Mornings in the Sutton household were always hectic. Well, for Kyra at least. She seemed to have inherited the position of combined mother and maid by default. Nobody ever actually asked her to do anything. But her father didn t have a clue about anything domestic and her brother seemed to live on another planet most of the time. So she wasn t left with much choice. Either she took on the role or they all lived in complete chaos, and probably starved to death. It s not long before Kyra gathers round her group of friends, both old and new, to share this new gift with them and to explore the meaning behind it for them all. I thought the mix of people in the group was very clever with the enthusiasm of Kyra s best friend Lauren; the IT know-how of non-flyer and charmingly geeky Noah; and experienced dream-rider twins (and US newcomers to school) Crystal and Ray. They gelled very well together, with each character bringing their own individual skill to the group. --Anne Brooke, Vulpes Libris

The awakening of one s destiny can take an individual by surprise. Especially a child who is thrust into circumstances they many not fully understand. Couple it with friends who are as equally gifted and with spiritual guidance; one s gifts will soar. For every relationship a person has, each has a specific reason why they are connected to you. Without exception the lives of Kyra and her friends are forever bound to learn and accept their life lessons and what they can do to make humankind more accepting to one another through each of their special abilities. Will Kyra and her friends come to a full understanding of their gifts in time to save the person in their first assignment? Come along for this spellbinding journey of self discovery and not judging a book by its cover. For you too may unearth a new perspective and attitude towards those in your life. Discover Lynda Louise Mangoro s spiritual and fascinating world at: http://www.mangoro.co.uk/dreamriders and be amazed by what the universe has to offer. --Donna M. McDine, Author

I became friends with the author, Lynda Louise Mangoro a short while before I knew she was about to be published with her very first book. I ordered a copy for my birthday a gift to myself.....
It is an appealing read from early years to later years or from 8yrs to 80yrs its an amazing journey, told by an amazing writer an interesting very descriptive story, keeps you absorbed in every single chapter I love how she writes so much so you can actually 'see' things.

My first bit in the story is this which oftens makes me smile

Page 22

Chapter 5

"Blossoms decorated the trees along her way, coloured from a pallette of soft pastels, and a chorus of morning birds
as she strolled to Lauren's house just a few streets from her own" how beautiful is that? she definately has a flare for words and story telling.

A lovely heart warming book of friendship, isolation, visions and dreams and of course awakenings...capturing so much in every page a story to make you laugh, tug at your heart strings, and really feel for these characters who come to life each one different but come together as a group.
I can't recommend it highly enough, Lynda is a talented writer, who should be very proud of her work, I am glad I bought it and read it, treat yourself to a unique ride.......in Awakening of the Dream Riders
I am glad I did.......Amelya G. Manchester.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantasy adventure moves at light speed 15 Jun 2010
Format:Perfect Paperback
Kyra has discovered how to fly.

As Lynda Louise Mangoro's magical novel "Awakening of the Dream Riders" begins, fourteen-year-old Kyra is trying out her new talent: "Her favorite unicorn poster suddenly loomed directly ahead. Pulling back, she slowed just in time to avoid a collision with the wall and sent herself tumbling backward through the air, rolling head over heels in a clumsy display of aero-gymnastics."

Before Kyra discovers what she's doing, veteran readers of paranormal fiction will guess that her joyful and liberating flight is astral projection. But she's too elated to concern herself about technical terms. She can't wait to share her stunning discovery with her best friend at school.

This well-told story moves at light speed, as fast as a person flying in their "light body" can soar across town in the blink of a thought. Soon, Kyra and her friends, Ray, Lauren, Crystal, and even the science-minded Noah are talking about "dream riding."

On the back cover of "Awakening of the Dream Riders," Mangoro describes Kyra's world as "a quiet street in a picturesque English seaside town." As Kyra and her friends discover, that's only one reality, and it's heavy and dense when compared to dream riding.

But unknown shadows await them within the infinite scope of the bright reality that knowing how to fly has offered them. Kyra and her friends will discover their unique dream riding talents, talents they must develop quickly in order to survive a tragedy their freshly opened eyes do not yet see.

"Awakening of the Dream Riders" plunges the reader into an inventive paranormal adventure. The high-energy magic of the story arises out of the fact that Kyra's world on the ground and in the air appears very real. And there's more to come: Mangoro's debut novel is the first in a projected series of open-your-mind fantasy adventures for young adults and adults.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best young adult read of the year 9 Feb 2010
Format:Perfect Paperback
Once I started this story I was unable to put it down. I wanted to follow Kyra's journey and find out how she and her friends coped with the extraordinary gift of Dream Riding. Adventure, friendship, romance...it has it all & I would, without hesitation, recommend this book to any teenager (or older!) who are looking for the next big thing in young adult fiction.
