God knows how many times I've listened to Playful Cub now, it's just so different to everything else I listen to; awesome track!

Anatomy of the Bear's debut EP 'Awakening' is the result of a collaboration between two friends and their love for music. This love is evident through the intricate delicacy of the music and minute attention to detail and care to the composition which can only be described as beautiful. That and their proclamation of music & bear love on AotB's myspace!

Predominantly instrumental in their nature each song builds upon a diverse crescendo of gentle waves that peacefully float you through the track to brilliantly orchestrated climaxes. Awakening, Playful Cub and Stars Above the Cave feature a small amount of angelic ambient singing which compliments the music and adds to the crescendo effect yet doesn't take over from the music itself.

While none of the tracks are slouches, each offers something different and enjoyable, my personal favourites are Long Winter and Stars Above the Cave. Long Winter's piercing guitar leads to a gutsy finale which begs to be turned up to 11 on your stereo. While Stars Above the Cave eases you in with serene percussion and soulful voice before launching you into an excellent blistering ending that grabs you by the scruff of your neck until the end of the EP, satisfied in the knowledge its just cemented itself onto your playlist.

Awakening is a tremendously welcome addition to the growing post-rock sub-genre. I hope me writing this review gives them some of the recognition they deserve and I sincerely hope to hear more in the future.

Never have I been more glad of trying something new in music - Anatomy of the Bear is an outstanding collection of beautiful music that continues to leave me spellbound every time I listen.

It's incredibly refreshing to listen to good music that doesn't require sensationalism, annoying hooks or controversial content to compensate for lack of genuine talent.

Whatever your musical tastes, I have no doubt that the melodic treasure-trove of surreal and inspiring music will leave you with a smile on your face.

Easily superior to anything I've listened to from "big label" releases in years.
