Product Description

Product Description

The awesome Avro Vulcan is an enduring image of the Cold War era when the world stood on the brink of nuclear annihilation. For many years the RAF's delta-wing jet bomber was the cornerstone of Britain's nuclear deterrent. Read about the Vulcan's operational history and take a close-up look at its construction. Discover what it takes to own and fly the mighty V-bomber, and find out how engineers keep it airworthy. Centrepiece of the manual is Vulcan XH558 - the world's only flying example of an Avro Vulcan.

About the Author

The expert author partnership comprises Tony Blackman, ex-RAF aircrew officer and Vulcan test pilot, Andrew Edmondson, chief engineer on the restored-to-flight Vulcan XH558, and Alfred Price, acclaimed aviation author and former Vulcan RAF aircrew officer.

My old man loved this: he worked on the Vulcans from '77 to '82 and has spent many an enjoyable (for him, at least) evening going through all the parts of the aircraft rivet-by-rivet with any family members present, or just the cat.

Great father's day present, and a very interesting book.

The book 'Vulcan 607' about the raid on Port Stanley is a page turner. Add this book as the perfect background to the vulcan. History of the plane, its usage and the story of its restoration.

Excellent book 1 July 2010

For those of us serving in the airforce during the 1970's and 80's, the sight of a stream of these magnificent kites taking off in a crescendo of noise and smoke was breath taking. A well written technical read!
